Up for bid with no reserve is a nice example of a 1977 BMW R100RS. I’m the third owner and purchased the bike in March 2002. The odometer stopped working shortly after at 76920. I’ve put maybe another 5-6K miles on it since and estimate the mileage at 82K. The bike was painted rattle-can white when I bought it and has been repainted with PPG two-part urethane over PPG DP epoxy primer. All the white bits were taken down to bare glass and wet sanded to 400 grit before priming and painting. The engine is stamped CFO (it came equipped with 38mm exhaust to meet emission requirements of California, Florida and Oregon). Since the cam, valves and carbs are the same as the “big pipe” model I had a machinist buddy open the exhaust ports up to accept 40mm pipes and installed the bigger pipes along with a set of German aftermarket mufflers; it does move out nicely and has a pleasant exhaust note.
