Vehicle Detail
1978 dodge D100 pickup with rare factory diesel option. Less than 2800 of these 243ci diesel powered trucks were made. This one is a very rare survivor. I bought it out of an Indiana barn in 1999. Looks very much like an old Fire Dept truck. Signs of a bubble light installation and fire engine red color, lots of instrument ad control labels, etc. Truck still starts and runs like a champ but calls out for a restoration. Has typical midwest rust, though not bad for the year. Looks mostly like the sort of rot you see when a vehicle sits in a field: quarters and wheel wells and floor pans. I've kept up with it over the years. Replaced wheel cylinders, water pump, belts, etc. The fuel tank is out of the truck and I run it from a 5 gallon marine tank. I use it to make occasional runs to the lumber company, transfer station, and to confound the self-proclaimed "Dodge experts" who tell me the truck doesn't exist. Have all the factory books including the diesel supplement as well as some old paperwork and the service manuals. Tires are crap: the nice Motor Wheels in the video do not go with the truck and I exchanged them for some crappy old tires when the truck sold to a collector in NY state. He was unable to come get the truck so now it is up for sale again. See video at: youtube.com/watch?v=zutkFx6u-AI
