0 0 1 1237 7055 Quick Dog Productions 58 16 8276 14.0 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Beautiful Karmann Ghia Fit for a Night on the Town To quote Car & Driver from 1972, “'You have to admit the Speedster and the Ghia kind of look alike, and they feel alike, and they perform the same. But more importantly, they even handle the same, and handling was what the Speedster was really all about when it came down to the final analysis.” Today, the collectability factor of the Karmann Ghia is rising. Hagerty’s Valuation Guide shows a steady climb in prices. All good news to Karmann Ghia owners. BlueChip Motorcars is pleased to offer a 1972 Karman Ghia in beautiful factory Saturn Yellow with a recorded 72,910 miles. To our knowledge, it’s a factory correct Karmann Ghia from bumper to bumper that sports the matching air-cooled 1584cc flat four with aluminum heads and magnesium crankcases. With 60-hp@ 4400 rpm this Ghia is ready for a zippy night on the town. As the story goes, in the early 1950s, Italian automotive stylist Ghia teamed with German coachbuilder Karmann and together they produced the sporty Karmann Ghia, powered by Volkswagen’s Type 1 engine and drivetrain. Others believe that Ghia’s true popularity came from the 1960’s American TV series Get Smart, when actor Don Adams drove a Ghia in the episode’s opening scenes. Either way, from the moment the Karmann Ghia hit North America, enthusiasts embraced it with open arms just like the staff of Car & Driver magazine. The rest is history. On this particular ’72 Karmann Ghia (VIN 1422139281), the instrumentation is in working order (including lights and flashers, but not the dash clock), and the factory seating (front and rear) and carpeting is aged, but is fair otherwise. As expected, the dash shows normal wear and sun cracks in some areas, but the door panels and window cranks are in good shape, and everything looks original to the car. The Ghia includes the factory seat harness for driver and passenger. The radio is aftermarket. The exterior is absolutely pristine. There are no noticeable dents, dings or rust of any kind, and the front and rear rubber window seals were replaced with new seals after a fresh repaint back to the original factory Saturn Yellow color. The body is factory straight and the finish of the paint is incredible. Front and rear window rubber are new, as well as, new rubber at the front headlights, door handles and taillights. The stainless body trim is in great shape and the badging polished like new (see photos). The engine idles very smoothly, which implies it was obviously well-maintained through the years. The transmission syncros and four-speed gearbox at speed are fluid, and the power from its 1584cc (96.7) cubic-inch engine is quick, and it’s responsive throughout the rpm band. Suspension is good in corners and the braking performance is notable. No worrisome noises, or odd rattles from inside the coupe. It drives as a Ghia should. It’s a one-of-a-kind Karmann Ghia that lives up to its reputation as a competitor to the early Speedsters with similar performance packages. About Factory Correct Cars offered by BlueChip Motorcars BlueChip Motorcars periodically offers classic cars that may be listed as Factory Correct, or Numbers Matching. Because there are many opinions about the term(s) used to describe these types of listings, allow us to explain how BlueChip Motorcars comes to that assessment. As you may know, depending on the source, the term “matching numbers, or factory correct,” may mean many things to many people. Purists might define it as a car with every possible window crank, dash knob or even every nut and bolt is original to the car from the time it left the production line. Although some classic cars do exist in that rare condition, most do not. The majority of classic cars on the market were at some point in their ownership, restored or repaired with NOS parts (new old stock) or licensed reproduction parts. Whenever the information is available to us about the use of these parts, BlueChip Motorcars will gladly pass it along to the potential buyer. BlueChip Motorcars uses the term Factory Correct or Numbers Matching only to distinguish a vehicle where the engine casting code corresponds with the VIN and Cowl Tag code. If these codes tell the same story about the car in question, BlueChip Motorcars then considers it to be a Factory Correct or Numbers Matching vehicle. However, unless otherwise stated, the transmission, rear end, and transmission may or may not be original to the car. BlueChip Motorcars welcomes all potential buyers to verify all the information with a qualified expert. We would be happy to email you all the numbers that are obtainable on any vehicle where the term Factory Correct or Matching Numbers is used.
