Vehicle Detail
1962 MGA 1600 MARK II Coupe 4 Cylinder 1622 cc 90 HP 4 Speed Sage Green Exterior Barley Beige Leather Interior Fawn Wilton Wool Carpets & Boot My brother, the second owner, completely disassembled the car in 1972 and then stored the parts in his garage. I purchased it in 2008 and a body off rebuild was completed in 2014. I am not calling this a “restoration” because there have been several changes from the original specifications. It has been driven less than 2000 miles since completion, four regional car shows with three First In Class awards and one Peoples Choice award. Always garaged and to- date never driven in the rain. The engine was completely rebuilt including new pistons (0.040 oversize), valves, guides and springs with Steelite exhaust valves. New push rods, rebuilt rocker arms and cam shaft. Polished crank shaft and surfaced flywheel. New starter, water pump, fuel lines, radiator and radiator shroud. Converted to spin-on oil filter. New timing chain, hoses and engine mounts. Carburetors were rebuilt. New clutch, rebuilt dual master cylinder (White Post Restorations) and clutch slave cylinder. New universal joints and Stainless Steel exhaust system. The fuel tank was professionally cleaned and lined. The original 4 speed transmission also was completely rebuilt. The electrical system was converted to a single 12 volt battery with negative ground. A battery disconnect switch and wiring for a battery tender were added. The generator was replaced with a 100 amp Alternator. New Ignitor electronic ignition system, Lucas Sport coil, and electronic fuel pump. All new bulbs and Halogen headlights. New turn signal switch (with added buzzer), headlight switch, wiper switch and ignition switch. Rebuilt speedometer and combination oil/water gauge (Nisonger). Hidden antenna. Adjustable steering column. A new steering rack was installed. New suspension bushings. Front and rear shocks were rebuilt (Apple Hydraulics). New rebound straps and shock links. New front brake pads, rear shoes, wheel cylinders and bearings. New brake lines. Four English Racemettle aluminum rims with knock-off spinners, five Nexen N5000 185/65 R15 Radial tires. The body was stripped to bare metal, dents and dings repaired, and then primed. Four coats of paint were added before clear coating. The new fender welting was dyed Sage Green to match the body color. The frame was painted black. New bumpers and over riders, grill and body emblems, park/turn lights, stop/tail lights. New windshield and body rubber. New leather interior and Wilton carpeting throughout, including trunk (Heritage Upholstery). Matching Barley Beige headliner and furflex door seals. New Moto-Lita steering wheel. New seat belts, shift knob, aluminum sill guards and rail covers. The cabin compartment has been totally heat/sound insulated. A workshop manual, driver’s handbook, original jack and crank, logo floor mats and battery tender are included. This is a Hagerty Condition Number 2++ car.
