Vehicle Detail
This 1982 Mercedes 300D is very clean and a real gem. It was originally purchased by a 61-year old friend of our family. He owned it for 10 years and put 90K miles on the car. In 1992, my mother bought the car when she was 63. It served as her second car and she only put 30K miles on it over the next twenty years (1500 miles per year). She passed the car on to me in late 2011. It has been sheltered in a garage its whole life. For 29 years, the car was located the arid high desert of western Colorado. For the past 3 years, the car has been in southwestern Montana and only driven minimally during the winter months. The car has been regularly serviced and maintained to keep it as original as possible. It is in remarkable shape and now has only 128,591 original miles. Everything works on this car from the original radio (and antenna) to tachometer, and cruise control. I have replaced many of the worn items and have provided a list. Most of the repair/service receipts (since the original purchase) have been kept, even the original checklist at the time of purchase. Since getting the car, I have changed out many of the rubber suspension items, replaced hoses, shocks, 5 tires, rubber bushings, and other wear items. The engine and transmission operate very smoothly. The A/C system was converted to R134 and works very well. Once warmed up and at idle, the oil pressure indicator reads 1.80 as can be seen in the picture taken of the dash gauges. The sunroof is waterproof and opens/closes smoothly. The interior is very clean. The Zebrano wood is literally like new (no cracks, no scratches) and the leather seats are in great shape. Even the front seat-back net pockets are like new. My mother was a smoker so when I took possession of the car in 2011, I had it professionally detailed and two ozone generator treatments were completed. No smoking has taken place in the car for the past 3 years and the car smells much better. There are minor rock chips and scratches (typical wear for a 32-year old car), but pictures show how well it has been preserved. The car drives strong with the turbo working when needed. The steering is very responsive and the suspension feels very stable through corners. It is a dream to drive and has been very well maintained making this an excellent car.
