Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE No Reserve!! 1995 BMW 318ti Hatchback 1.8L Engine, 5-speed Manual Transmission MPG: 19 city / 29 hwy Historic – cheap registration and insurance! Will Run and drive, but Needs Work. Good candidate for an M50 / M52 swap. Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1995 BMW 318ti. These are interesting little cars that you don’t often see on the road. BMW’s answer to the small hatchback, the 318ti is a good little city car, but is also comfortable on the highway. These little hatchbacks are reminiscent of the VW Golf, but retain BMW’s trademark rear-wheel drive sportiness, and refinement. The stock 1.8L engine in these cars is peppy and gets good gas mileage, but it is not fast in stock form, so many people perform the M50 or M52 conversion, swapping in a 2.5L or 2.8L 6-cylinder engine from a regular, trunk-back E36 BMW. These engines are easy to find and relatively cheap to buy, and the swap is meant to be pretty straightforward. The body and interior on this car are in good shape, but mechanically it needs some work. When running, there is a loud upper engine noise that sounds like it is coming from one of the engine accessory pulleys, but could also be coming from the valvetrain. It is difficult to isolate the source. It is a high-pitched knocking / tapping sound, but it sometimes disappears for a minute or two and then recurs. It does not sound like a lower engine / rod knock. The alternator does not appear to be charging the battery, but the engine can be started and run with jumper cables. The engine, once warmed up, has a relatively stable idle, and it revs and drives OK. The oil and coolant look normal, and the engine does not overheat or smoke. The car is drivable, but I have not driven it far, only enough to check / confirm that the clutch works, and that the transmission shifts through all of its gears. The clutch feels strong and transmission does not grind during shifting. The brakes feel good, and as far as I can tell, the suspension is in good shape. The grey interior of the car is in good shape for the age and mileage. The carpets look clean, though there is some minimal staining in the footwells. The seats are clean and supportive, and do not have tears on them. There are no cracks on the dash or center console. This car has dual airbags, power windows, power mirrors, a power sunroof and cruise control. The heater works well. There is A/C, but I have not tested it because of the cold weather. The headliner is clean, but starting to get a little loose in the corners. The passenger’s window is up, but off the track. The driver’s door panel is a little loose at the bottom. There is an electrical problem in the dash that seems like a bad ground wire. The gauges act erratically and all of the warning lights flicker on and off while the engine is running. Radio does not come on. The exterior of the car is decent for the age and mileage. The body appears to be rust-free. There is the occasional ding or chip in the white paint. Up close there are light scratches visible in the clearcoat. The lower front spoiler has been broken, but should be easy to replace from a junkyard donor. There is a small crack in the windshield. This car has the BMW factory alloy wheels. Both front tires have slow leaks. All exterior lights work. This car needs some work. It is a project, but would make a great vehicle for someone looking for a small, sporty hatchback, but wanting something different from mass of Civics and Golfs out on the road, plus it has RWD. This car has the possibility of making some serious power. If I was keeping it for myself, I might replace the alternator to see if that was the source of the noise, but if it wasn't, I wouldn’t even consider fixing the current engine. I’d do either the M50 or M52 swap, put on a lowered suspension and some M3 wheels, and have a mean little head-turner. Because it is now 20 years old, it is eligible for cheap historic registration and insurance. Please read the description thoroughly, examine all of the pictures and then come see the car in person before you decide to bid. I welcome bidders to come check out this car, just please give me at least 24 hours notice that you want to come so that I can adjust my busy schedule. I am selling this car on behalf of my father because he does not use the internet. This car is owned by his small, used car dealership. Since this car is owned by a dealership, the buyer has the option of getting a 2-month temp tag. I would not recommend driving this car home, but having a tag is helpful for moving the car legally on the street, and storing it without the hassle of nosey neighbors reporting you. It can be driven up onto a trailer or transporter. PLEASE READ: This car is over 20 years old, so it will be sold as a historic vehicle. Payment is to be made in cash. Paypal and Bank Transfers are not cash, cash is physical, paper money. If you are a long-distance bidder, ensure that you will be able to have someone bring the cash payment and collect the titlework in person. Buyer must have a valid drivers license to purchase, and must be able to present this license at the time of pick-up. A $200 deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction's end. This can be paid through Paypal. The remainder is to be paid in cash at the time of pick-up. Bidders with zero or negative feedback must contact me prior to bidding – I will delete your bids otherwise. Do not send me angry emails when you bid without contacting me, and then find that I have deleted your bids and blocked you from further bidding on the auction. This car is sold AS IS, with NO WARRANTY. Please examine the supersized photos, and contact me if you have any questions. Serious bidders are welcome to come see the car, just give me notice ahead of time so I can adjust my schedule. Since this car is being sold by a dealership, if on arrival for pick-up the buyer has a valid driver's license and proof of insurance, a 2-month temp. tag can be supplied at an additional cost of $35. ***If the winning bidder is a Maryland resident, they must pay a 6% sales tax on the final bid, and a $100 title processing fee. Payment is to be made in CASH at pick-up. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The car must be picked up within 1 week of the end of the auction.
