Vehicle Detail
The good: This bike is not a barn find. It was carefully parked in an air conditioned home basement sometime around 2003. It has less than 6K miles and is not running. The gas was drained from the tank and outside carbs before storage. There is no rust in the gas tank or on the bike. No chrome or aluminum pitting. It is 99.7% complete and has the stock Honda sport touring luggage. All cylinders have excellent compression, spark and the valve train operates smoothly. Bike has the original exhaust in good to excellent condition (see photos for dents). Original Honda Workshop Manual included. Transmission oil is clean. Electric start works fine and the bike ran a few seconds when cranked with external battery and primed in the cylinders. No further run tests were done as the carbs were just leaking too much gas from their overflow tubes. We did remove one carb bowl and saw that is was very clean with no sediment or heavy fuel residue. The bad: The carbs need work as they are leaking when given fuel. The fuel lines need replacing. As many of you CBX fans may know the engine must be tilted forward to access the carbs for rebuild work. Jay Leno uses ‘Old School Carbs’ and last I checked they charge about $900 bucks for complete rebuild and do an outstanding job. Rebuild kits are available for $60 to $150 for the diy 'expert' . The starter solenoid and battery needs replacing. There is one missing dash light cover, two corners worn through in the seat and some dents and scratches on the original exhaust mufflers - especially the right side (see photo). The paint is not original or an original color – however it is in very good condition. The pin striping is not perfectly done. The brakes will need to be checked out, cleaned up and possibly new seals in the calipers. The background: For fun google Jay Leno and his ’82 Honda CBX You-Tube video. Jay gives an excellent history of the bike and explains how the CBX was his first ‘new’ bike. This particular bike is not Jay’s of course but was donated to the CMA (Christian Motorcyclist’s Association) chapter here in Farmington, NM. The proceeds will go to our only annual fund raising event called ‘Run for the Son’ and this will support our 3 main ministries. Just google CMAUSA.org for further information, or email me with any questions. We are offering this bike first in an ‘As-Is’ condition and are hoping it will find a good home. I will be glad to help w/ shipping, or local transportation within 200 miles. This bike really is unique in the overall history of motorcycles and this particular bike is in great shape to get running and enjoy. Will accept cash or bank cashiers check. Bike is available to inspect - just send me an email .
