Vehicle Detail
1959 Chevrolet Apache Fleetside Daily driver in complete working order, passed Texas inspection (expired in 2014). This is essentially a "farm truck" that tops out at 60 mph on the open highway. I bought it from an Okie who said he had no qualms about driving it on the highway, but that was an exaggeration so I immediately made it safe by replacing brake shoes& cylinders, and replaced the drivers side Rear mirror. No power steering and unlike my 66 Mustang, this one takes a bit of arm mojo. Engine starts right up. All in all this looks like an excellent restoration candidate, because it's mostly all original and has minimal rust. Unknown mileage, as I assume the odometer has turned over at least once! Straight 6 cylinder Engine- looks original, can't be sure but if you tell me where the serial number is, I'll check.Manual transmission, 4 speed (3-speed plus "granny gear"). Shifts fine.Reupholstered recently, with nice red, well-foamed and supported, $270 upholstery from LMC trucks.Bed lacks the original wood planks and has a plastic liner which is fine for a far truck, just a bit warped.Body is sound, no dents, dings etc, virtually free of defects except a few small rust holes in one location (see last picture).Paint: previous owner put a primer coat on. I never restored this truck, and used it for neighborhood tasks, so leaving it w the primer coat was perfect. The original paint was turquoise, as you can see on the firewall under the hood.Chrome trim is all original and in good condition - faded, but no corrosion. Most gauges seem to work, speedometer works at upper speeds. Heater and defrost work (slowly), and wipers, lights, horn etc all work.New battery in 2014Defects I can identify, all minor: Passenger side window crank doesn't work- I bought a new crank but it slips so probably have to replace pin inside door.Drivers side vent window intact and shuts fine, but the top connector is not intactPrevious owner wires the choke to the throttle knob, throttle knob not connected.Radio works intermittently - loose wires?Roof of the cab needs to be sanded and painted - no rust damage, but paint worn off and minor oxidation. Please look at all pictures carefully and call with any questions before your final bid, as I'm selling this "as is", hence non returnable. I have clear Texas title. If you want to come see this truck, I'm in NE Houston near IAH Airport. I've done my best to describe all key information but it's an old car that I've only owned for a few years. I'll send more pictures to you if you tell me what you want to see. Included are several spare parts from the previous owner (manifold, speedometer etc) which may or may not work. Note: the original 1959 Texas plates in the pictures are NOT included unless you make a side deal for them- they are legal plates in Texas that passed inspection by the DMV, hence have value to residents here. Terms of sale are $500 deposit due in 48 hr, cashiers check or paypal; balance due by Cashiers check or cash upon pickup; title and vehicle released once funds are in my possession. No exceptions. I reserve the right to end auction early as it's for sale locally.
