This is a car that I bought for my younger daughter and thoroughly went through. Two weeks after she got her license, she decided to go too fast and lost control going around a bend in the road. She drove the car up onto a good-sized rock, and the left front suspension was pushed to the rear. In so doing, the front wheel impacted the corner where the floor pan transitions to the wheel wheel. This pushed the door sill out, and distorted the roof. Because of all of the work that I did to the car right before this happened, it is a great parts car. I substantially rebuilt the engine, details of which you can see in the photos, had a qualified automotive machine shop rebuild the head, and replaced rings and rod bearings. At this time, I also replaced the timing belt with a 100k miles Continental unit, and did the water pump and all of the various idlers, bearings, and tensioners. While this is not a full blown rebuild, the bottom end of these engines are legendary for their longevity. As part of its "pre-delivery to daughter work" I replaced the front struts and rear shocks with Bilstein units, and replaced the brake pads and rotors. While I didn't keep a real file of the invoices for these parts, all were purchased from either FCP Euro (their good stuff) or IDP Parts. So, I should be able to reprint invoices for a buyer that would like to have them The engine and transmission are fine, as is all of the front end except the left front suspension. The radiator, transmission, air conditioning condenser, and intercooler were not impacted at all during the collision and are in their fine, pre-collision condition. This car got an honest 40-42 mpg no matter whether it's around town or highway driving. (I have three of these TDIs, and I would love to know what people are towing theirs with when they say they get 50 or 55 MPG!) While I cannibalized the battery from the car to put in the 2005 red one I also have for sale, we can start the engine and the car can be put into forward and reverse to demonstrate that the major parts are functioning just fine. I will be happy to help you load the car onto your trailer, but you will need to come equipped with some kind of winch or come-along, and at least four 2" wide heavy duty ratcheting straps or chains and binders.
