Vehicle Detail

Greetings - up for auction is my 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS. This is the second to last year with the amazing 4 Weber carb setup, and this is the car you want to buy. I have owned my car since 2001. It is my understanding that I am the 3rd owner. When I bought the car, it had 54k miles - it now has 71k and change. Since I've owned it, it has never been abused, tracked, or stored outside. As you can see, it is extraordinarily clean. The paint is gorgeous. The interior is like new except for wear on the seats. The driver's seat has a wear hole on the seat and a big wear hole on the side bolster. Were I to want to restore the car to like new I'd fix it as spares as readily available and reasonably priced, but as a driver I like having a little bit of patina. The car had its 60k major service in 2004 at Continental Motors in Hinsdale, IL, an authorized Ferrari dealer. Since then, it's had regular easy maintenance like oil changes and such, and also been upgraded to a modern fuse block and a halon fire extinguisher just in case. This car is very original. It still has the original ignition setup whereas many 308s have 'upgraded' to a solid state system - but IMO that destroys the originality. This car hs no cats. It has a later year Metric wheel and tire setup with good tread left. IMO the larger wheels fill the tire well better. All are authentic Ferrari, but not original to 1978. Car runs well. Starts right up. Steers and brakes straight. No weird noises. Not even the legendary balky 2nd gear on this car. The 308 is the last affordable collector Ferrari IMO. It's widely considered to be the car that saved Ferrari. It was the last of the carbed Ferraris. It was the last of the handbuilt Ferraris. It was the last Ferrari which Enzo had an active role in. So I think this is the collectible you want to buy. Savings account at .1%? NO THANKS! I'll buy me a Ferrari. Car comes with owner's manual, parts book, ratty sheepskin seat covers (if you want), nice car cover and two sets of keys. Car comes with the vinyl targa top cover. Also as I indicated the fuseblock has been updated to the modern one that all 308s should get, but I have the original fuseblocks and whatnot for future concours. Also as you may have noticed the ignition coils have been replaced with high perf Accel units. I have the (I believe) original Magneti Marelli coils which will come with the car.
