DOES NOT RUN! 2001 Eclipse Spyder GT Premium Edition. First - why doesn't it run?Needs ECM/Wiring harness repair. Had the car start sputtering and it threw both cam and crankshaft sensors simultaneously. However, the factory service manual cites ECM (PCM as its called on this model) failure as the most likely reason that both of these codes would appear at the same time. So I replaced the ECM with a used one of identical model number. This required reprogramming in order to get the ECM to work with the theft disabler and specific key which were still parts of the car (which means the car won't start right now possibly only because of the anti-theft system not syncing up). I tried reprogramming myself with no luck. I finally broke down and had it towed to the dealer to get the ECM reprogrammed (reflashed). But they couldn't get it done either. Because the dealer could not get the new ECM reflashed, I suspect it's either a bad replacement ECM or a wiring harness issue. I do not believe this will be easy to get running (or the dealer here is just totally incompetent). I've bought a new car and we are saving for mortgage closing costs so I'm done fooling with this thing. Also, I live in the middle of nowhere in Louisiana now, so make sure you can get this thing transported before bidding. _________________________________ Now for the condition of the rest of the car:Keep in mind this car was used in Kentucky, we have no inspection requirements at all there! 140k miles on it. It 'ran' just fine. It leaks some oil from either the head or cover gasket. There is no horn, and I have always suspected no airbag in the steering wheel as there is some give when the cover of the steering wheel is pushed, but I have never checked. The airbag light is on (I unscrewed it), but I have had this exact model of car before and the airbag light is usually on in these cars due to the airbags in the seats having bad connections after they age. The convertible top and motor and latches work just fine. When I got the car, the previous owner had not replaced the side cables over the two door windows after they had broken. Once I replaced these, There was still some leaking over the doors in heavy rain. A rainstorm or two doesn't hurt it, but if it's going to rain for days, it should be covered or garaged. The only troublesome rust was in the driver's rear shock tower and the bracket that attaches to the top of the shock and then bolts to the top of the wheel well had rusted and the broke free. I have the parts to replace this (actually bought them for both sides just in case), but never got around to dropping the wheel to get it done. So the top of the shock bangs around on bumpy roads. There is a split in the leather in the 'seat' of the passenger's seat and someone at some point had tried to recolor the sides and rear of the front seats. The trunk latch doesn't pop the trunk but I think this is because the struts that hold the trunk open are completely shot and it just doesn't pop up when the lever is pulled. The power mirror switch is bad. Cruise control doesn't work. There is no emblem on the front bumper, so it may have had some work done, but I never looked that up. I updated the guage faces and infinity stereo head unit to match the 03+ models. The wheels are chrome and just need a good shining (unless you're like me and prefer the nickel look). The rear sway bar end links have gone bad, but I have the replacement parts as well. As you can tell from the pictures, this car still cleans up really, really nice and has a lot of potential. But if you just can't afford anything more and are trying to save money by getting this car and trying to fix it, I wouldn't hold my breath. If you want to part this out, there're a lot of good parts on it.
