Vehicle Detail

1949 Buick Super convertible Great body style, and last year of the split windshield. Very nice condition… Mechanically: Original Fireball 8 which runs strong and starts right up. Recent tune up to include: carburator rebuild and cap / rotor. Original style lacquer coated plug wires. Intake/exhaust manifolds milled. Wheel-bearings and kingpins new. Drum brakes work great. Shifter linkage bushings replaced and rear end flushed and new fluids added. New battery, and car has been converted to 12v. Original dash and gauges/radio. There is an added cd player in glove box. There is an ancillary electric radiator fan …. Never used by me, car never ran hot. Exhaust system is in very good shape. Shifts smoothly and easily. Steering has a little play to the left but not bad…. Goes down the road straight as an arrow. Interior: Very, very nice. Beautiful leather interior … no tears or rips. No wear marks either. Power windows work. The top is cloth (newer) and in next to new condition….again no tears/rips/wear areas. Cool small back window. Top goes up and down , no problems. Rug is in great shape. Interior chrome has been polished and waxed and presents very well. Exterior: Older paint job showing some age. No orange peel, but does have chips and blemishes here and there… detracts little from the overall beauty of this car. Still polishes up to a nice sheen. The wire wheels are not original but are in near perfect shape and look great. The radial tires are new and ride smooth. The front driver door window is cracked. Also there is a 3inch dent in passenger back fender (see picture). No rust period. Panels and rockers are all sound as is the trunk pan (spare included). Chrome is near excellent and stainless shines well but does have some dimpling here and there. Undercarriage: frame is in excellent shape…no rot at all. One patch in drivers floor, and there is the typical rust hole in the bottom of the spare tire well….easy fix. Overall the underneath is solid and will not be a problem whatsoever. This was a southern car and it shows…. No rock salt! Overall impression: A strong drivers #3 and fast approaching #2. This is no trailer queen. Everybody says their car is a head turner….but this one REALLY is. Everybody tells me how “pretty” this car is! The wives at the car shows just love her. Get in and drive anywhere…. without having to worry about every stone chip. That said, this car represents a solid candidate for a concour’s restoration if you so desire. The value is there in this rare automobile. Let’s face it they didn’t make that many of these in 1949 and there aren’t that many left. I’ve had my fun and did my part to keep her going… now it’s time for somebody else to take care of her. Enjoy the pictures and happy bidding!!!
