When new, the 9-3 Aero was the fastest car Saab had ever made . . . Body panels and in fact, the whole car, looks unbelievably good from every angle. You can spot a turbo V6 Aero (over the base 9-3) by its twin tailpipes . . . Front and rear independent suspension, power rack and pinion steering, 4-wheel power disc brakes with ABS, electronic traction and stability control . . . Saab safety is a given and this car is no exception. You get seatbelt pretensioners, driver and passenger frontal airbags, side air bags and side curtain airbags . . . Driving as many cars as I do, it's easy to become jaded. As it happened, the vehicle given me after this Saab was a particularly nice older, low mileage Corvette. I have never been so disappointed. Besides having the only driver's seat in automotive history capable of making the pedals unreachable for this 6' 4" tester, I'm convinced the roomy Saab sedan would blow the 'Vette's doors off in a drag race. Torque pours out like a fire hose in any gear, from seemingly anywhere on the tachometer. Turns out, 90% of peak torque is available from 1,500 to 4,500 RPM. No wonder it felt so powerful. A 6-speed transmission means you're never in the wrong gear and this is just a very nice looking car that goes like hell and makes me smile every time I turn the key. A key, by the way, that goes into a console ignition located between the seats. Whether it's for reasons of safety, (a thin metal key in front of your knee can become a problem in a crash) anti-theft/security or simply a nod to Saab's aircraft history, I think it's cool. In fact, think this whole car is cool . . . Beautiful two-tone leather seats, silver trim and cultured Scandinavian logic make the 9-3 Aero's cabin a nice place to conduct the business of driving. Tilt/telescopic steering column, 6-disc in-dash changer, dual zone climate control, NBA approved legroom and near new car condition throughout . . .
