I WILL DROP THE PRICE BACK DOWN ONCE I GET ALL THE PICTURES UP... Hello eBayers! I am listing my 1965 Mercedes Benz 230 SL. European specification (much prettier and true to original design)I recently purchased this car with intentions for my wife to drive come next spring after going through some cosmetics and minor mechanical's through the winter. Last week my friend offered up his low mileage 308GTB and being a true car “addict” I had to buy it. The end result is this car and my old 911 will be sold to make room in the garage and help refill the bank account! I will do my best to describe the SL as accurately as possible and if you are serious please email me to come and take a look. I have a lift in my garage so you can really get all around this car. I am getting my Jaguar off the lift tonight so I can get some nice undercarriage shots as well. I will break the car down into sub-categories to give as thorough a description as possible. Body and paint-The body on this car is in fantastic condition. The car is very straight as you can see in the photos. The body has virtually no rust. The paint is an older respray that is starting to show some age. It looks beautiful but once you get within 5 feet you can see some fading/checking. The car was originally black and my intention was to drive next season as is and then return to the original color come winter 2015-16. This combination of Black exterior and Palomino interior with full European specification is just classic Mercedes SL elegance. Chassis-/Undercarriage- The very front sections of drivers and passenger floors have small rust holes. Also the rear pinch weld/jacking area (in front of tires underneath car) The rest of the underside is very solid. Please see pictures I will post tonight on my lift. An honest welder would need a few days to fix this properly and then you would just blend in the factory style undercoat. Overall this car is very solid I am trying to give it an honest description as an enthusiast not a dealer. The Interior- What appears to be the original low mileage interior is in very good condition especially considering its 50 years old! My wife’s 10 year old VW Passat has not held up like this. Some of the carpet needs to be re-glued but nothing is worn through or ripped. The Tops- The hardtop is in very nice shape other than what look like scratches most likely from storing off the car and moving around. I checked the convertible top and it appears it was like new but a small squirrel or mouse decided it would make a tasty snack out of it and now will need replacement! Darn! These are readily available and not very hard to replace as they are not power tops or anything complicated. The Wheels and Tires- While the tires have plenty of tread left they are starting to dry-crack from sun/age. They are the original style Michelins that look very period and cool and should be replaced with the same style. The hubcaps and steel wheels are in great shape. The Engine- The engine starts right up with no hesitation and runs smooth with great oil pressure and no smoke or bad noises. In the last year the car has been updated with all new fuel tank/pump/lines and fuel injection pump. As you can see in the pictures this is a very clean unmolested engine and compartment. The Transmission- The transmission shifts smoothly and the fluid is nice and clean with no smell. The transmission appears to be in good working order. The Suspension- The suspension was also recently serviced with all new Bilstein shocks and bushings. All new steering joints and bushings. Again once I put on lift this evening I will take and post the photos. Lights/Electrical- The lights are all in working order. The Horn is most likely the most impressive horn I have heard that is not mounted to a train! The Original Becker radio has been replaced with a Blaupunkt cassette deck. I would change back to the Becker with modern internals so it can interface with an iPod/mp3 player. The Exhaust- The center muffler needs replacement but the Overall condition of the exhaust is very good. My local exhaust shop said they can eliminate that muffler for $150. Since the car has two more and will still be very quiet but have a bit sportier sound without the one…which is what I wanted. The Brakes- These we also recently serviced. The car stops very well with no pulsation or pulling. The brakes are in good operating order. In conclusion I am selling a very original low mileage uber rare European 230SL that has had a lot of money invested into it to date. I have the original keys and owners manual as well as many receipts. It is in need of some more repairs and tidying up but is a very good car to start with. Please feel free to ask questions, these auctions are not bid and win so you can come look at the car so please ask everything and or look at the car before you win. I don’t want to waste time. As far as the common question "will you sell now and how much?", this is an auction not an advertisement. If you want to send me your highest offer I will consider ending early but I prefer to let the auction run its course. Thank you and good luck!
