Vehicle Detail

1999 VW EuroVan Camper Winnebago Conversion VR6 engine, long wheelbase model in Memphis,Tennessee I am proud to offer the Ebay community exclusively this very nice 1999 Volkswagen Eurovan Camper! This will be my 515th vehicle listed and sold here on Ebay Motors since 1998. What began as an experiment in 1998 has now become a full time career! You are looking at a two owner 1999 VW bus that has always been very well cared for. I am in the business of buying and selling older German cars here on Ebay. I have been buying and selling older Mercedes-Benz cars for years, and from time to time, when I am lucky , I also purchase VW Westfalia Campers. A few weeks ago , I purchased this EuroVan Camper from the second owner when she was purchasing a Mini Cooper from me. The second owner was Mrs. Georgia Wright and she used this vehicle primarily as a commuter. At age 79, Mrs. Wright decided that the van was simply too big for her and so she purchased a Mini Cooper as she was moving back to California to retire. The vehicle is in overall very good condition and appears to have been properly cared for. Mrs. Wright provided me with a file folder of nearly 100 repair invoices, she was quite methodical about having the vehicle continually serviced. The Eurovan has all available options from new. MSRP was $59,000 for this model when new, and it has the same equipment and features found on the last 2003 models sold in the US. The 1997-2003 models are identical in every respect (except for the patterns in the upholstery). I have been a fanatical VW bus enthusiast all of my life. I learned how to drive at age 13 in a bone white 1971 Westfalia that I dragged out of a divorced woman's yard for $50.00 . The bus had no gearshift , so I wedged a screw driver in the floor and learned to shift with my right foot . I was in love! Since then, I have probably bought and sold over thirty type II's ,buses, and Vanagons I have had the entire range of conditions, from a 30k mile 71' from the original owner ,to a rusted out hull given to me from a guy from Iowa after it died on the side of the road. I still have a 1976 Orange Westfalia Kiombi, a 1977 Sage green Westfalia Kiombi, and a restored 1971 Westfalia Kiombi. I'm stubborn and not selling them! I full well realize that a Winnebago isn't a Westfalia... And I suppose that as I have grown older, I am beginning to realize that I am somewhat hesitant to change. I am stubborn, but it takes me a while to adapt to change... So , it took a while for the Winnebago to sink under my skin. I have three Westfalia vans that I dearly love, and the Winnebago was a change, but after driving it for a few days, I am in love with it. This is a wonderful progression from the Vanagon. In my opinion it is far more practical , and seems to be much more reliable. It's a shame that these aren't produced anymore. After spending some time with the Eurovan Camper (called the California Freestyle in Germany), I reached the conclusion that Winnebago had done a fine job with this camper. The 1997-2003 models were evolved from the original 1st generation Eurovan Camper produced from 1992-1995, called the "EV". The 1997-2003 models were the first to offer the powerful VR6 engine instead of the earlier Audi five cylinder from the old Audi 5000 platform. The VR6 engine can also be found in the Jettas and Passats. The VR6 provides the Eurovan with 140 horsepower, and it finally addresses the "underpowered" complaint from earlier models. The models came standard with an "adaptive" four speed automatic transmission , and are quite responsive and are at home on the highways at cruising speeds. The newer Eurovans were also longer. In the 1997-2003 models, VW only offered them in a stretch version. The factory stretched the Campers fourteen inches in the rear. This allowed for quite a bit of interior room for the kitchen area, and also allowed for the addition of a removable third row seat. Additionally , the second generation Eurovans had improved safety features. The 1999 and newer models had standard anti-lock brakes and dual airbags. Like its predecessors , this Eurovan is quite practical to use as an everyday car. It is GREAT if you have small children, as the sliding doors and the two rows of rear seats are super handy! I operate my Ebaymotors.com business much like that of a mail order business. I send my cars all over the country. I deal only with 2 shippers and can efficiently send your vehicle ANYWHERE to you at minimal cost and hassle. My customers enjoy the convenience of buying from me. When you get your vehicle, it is ready to go. I change the oil and check all fluids before it leaves my office. You will receive a full tank of fuel and a temporary operation permit good for 30 days. Herbert Phillips 800.310.8767 The interior is very clean. The prior owner was a non-smoker and the van appears to have never been smoked in. All contact surfaces are clean! The EuroVan is equipped with daytime running lights, dual airbags, and anti-lock brakes. This Eurovan is also equipped with Air conditioning, Central heating system (for camping), Automatic transmission with cruise control, power windows, power locks, and a host of other features that I will try to illustrate below- Simple climate controls work well. The vehicle has front and rear heat, and A/C. I have tested both and the heat and air conditioning work quite well. A/C is the newer R134A refrigerant. The stock sound system was a Panasonic unit. I had a new Kenwood unit installed last week as an upgrade. The Kenwood unit has hands free blue tooth for your telephone , as well as blue tooth audio streaming , It also has native Pandora and Iheart radio. I went ahead and splurged and got the XM Sirius Satellite module installed as well. The unit also plays CD's and CDR's in various formats. Note the blue tooth microphone mounted above the mirror. This is super handy! Both front seats swivel 360 degrees. Here are two of the three tables that come with the Eurovan. This is the removable center-row seat, an $850 option when new. Here is the interior with the center bench removed. Much like that of a swiss-army knife, the interior holds many interesting features! The Norcold refrigerator is a tri-power unit , it can be powered by 12 volt, 110 volt, or by propane. It doesn't appear to have seen any use. Clean! The stove top is a two burner unit, operated on propane, and the sink is electric. The camping equipment is clean. The van holds 12 gallons of clean water , and eight gallons of "grey" water. Dishwater in this case. This is the thermostat control for the central heating system. This is a furnace to be used while camping. The van is also equipped with a carbon monoxide detector. Rear hatch has plenty of storage, including a closet with hanging rod, and water station for rinsing off. DC to AC inverter is included. I left the stereo head unit box with warranty and the XM Sat module box with the activation code for the next owner. All accessories have their own breaker panel. The closet, is large, though I'm not the greatest photographer. Below is one of the three tables included with the Eurovan. This bag contains the optional snap-on screens for the rear hatch and sliding door? They haven't ever been used. The rear bench seat slides forward, and also lays flat and makes a fine double bed! All of the windows in the Eurovan are equipped with privacy blinds, or curtains. As Martha, in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? liked to say, "It's right at the meat of things". Hopefully, one the big reasons you are looking at this van, is the pop-top. Just like all of its predecessors, this Eurovan has a full bed upstairs in the tent. What a serene escape hatch! Everyone needs a pop-top to escape to from time to time! Tent appears to have seen very little use. The canvas is in great shape with no defects noted. The pop top seals are still soft and feel great! The screens are still nice too! I zipped all of the screens down, but they have privacy flaps if needed! Upstairs sleeps two adults comfortably. It was hard to photograph. In homage to the old Vanagon Wesfalia, that's a skylight! Though hard to tell, the bug screen is still in place. This is a view from the pop-top bed. Here's a view of the cab when looking down from the pop-top bed. This is an absolutely fun van to drive. I think the prior owner used it mostly to commute , and I can fully understand why. The bus has a nice feel to it, and is quite manageable around town. The engine has good power and acceleration, and the van is comfortable to steer and it actually handles well. It also gets reasonable gas mileage (around 18 mpg), impressive for a 5,100 lb vehicle. I have been driving this van around for the last few weeks and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Everything appears to work exactly as it should, the cruise control works, the power windows, etc. The van was serviced by the local VW dealer regularly, and the original owner kept the records. The van is quite clean. The interior and body are overall quite nice for a fifteen year old vehicle. I have had the vehicle detailed and professionally touched-up where needed. If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them directly by telephone. Herbert Phillips 800-310-8767 (during reasonable hours please). I have the original Winnebago manual, and the VW EuroVan manuals- History I have every service receipt since new. The first interval was at 0095 miles and I have the last one from ten miles ago where we had the rear brakes replaced. This is a two owner vehicle originally from Port Angeles , Washington. The first owner kept the vehicle well serviced by the original selling dealer ,Dan Wilder VW, and was very methodical about having all services performed on time, as specified. I have all receipts from the 1st owner. The vehicle changed hands and the 1st owner sold the Eurovan to Mrs. Georgia Wright on 10/16/06 at 47,050 miles. Mrs. Wright was living in Larkspur, Ca at the time and she drove up to purchase the Eurovan. She then drove the Eurovan on a few trips to San Miguel Mexico , and throughout the southwestern United States. Mrs. Wright moved to New Mexico and registered the Eurovan there for a spell. I still have the unusual orange tags. From the receipts that I have on hand, (a room full, as you can see, that's about a 12 x 6 area) , it would appear that Mrs. Wright had it serviced about every 2,000 miles or so. This was usually an oil change and inspection. The last service was performed approximately 900 miles ago. This vehicle has never missed a service. All documentation shall accompany the Eurovan to its new owner. VR6 engine runs great and exhibits perfect manners. I have been driving this for the last few weeks and have been thoroughly impressed! Just like the label says- Meets California Emissions requirements! Here is the vin for anyone who should need it. This is the Data sheet from Winnebago. All four tires appear to have 70% or better tread life remaining. Pricing- Late model EuroVan Campers in good condition are scarce. This could be because @ $52-$61,000 when new, not many were sold new here in the US to begin with. I have watched a few 1999 models here on Ebay sell in the mid thirties this Summer. There are a few listed on Gowesty's sold page in the $40's to $54k (see it here ). Their justification of higher selling prices is that they "restore" their vans.. Well, here's one that has always been properly maintained! It doesn't need restoration. I believe the value of my EuroVan to be approximately $32,900 based upon selling prices that I have seen recently here on ebay and elsewhere. I am offering the EuroVan without reserve price.
