Vehicle Detail
This is a nice 2001 Insight with a clean title, no accidents, clean Carfax and current 2015 registration. It is a nice car that gets great gas mileage because of the design of the car. It is made of aluminum, has the preferred automatic transmission and weighs only 2200 pounds. That is 1000 pounds less than the Toyota Prius. The tires are in new condition and the a/c is cold. The IMA battery charges as it should and the autostop works perfectly. It has 32,000 miles which is way way way below average miles for this type of car. This is probably the lowest miles of any 1st Generation Insight you will ever find so bid accordingly. These cars last well into the 400,000 miles mark and will also go up in value because they are rare finds. Honda built very few of these cars world wide, 17,000 or so. Even Jay Leno, an avid car collector, says the 1st Generation Insight will soon be a collectable automobile. Honda still services them also. They cost $30,000 to build. This model of Honda Insight is still to this day the absolute king of mpg of all hybrids. Sure you can buy an all electric Chevy Volt or even a Tesla but do you really want to spend $45,000 to $70,000 on a car that needs to be plugged in every 100 miles and has a charge rate of just 5 miles per hour? Tesla owners say you can get a faster charge if you plug in at an RV park? Really? What fun. For basically the price of a used Ford Focus you can buy my car and get 50 miles per gallon or more depending on how you drive. In 2000 the 1st Gen Insight was introduced into the US (a full 7 months before the Toyota Prius) so was the very 1st Hybrid on the market. Even today in 2014 no Prius or other hybrid car can beat my car's mpg. Here is the proof: http://www.motherearthnews.com/green-transportation/miles-per-gallon-cars-zb0z11zblon.aspx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WYypHmERtw is a cute video about the 1st Gen Insight I am a small car dealer (just me) here in Orange County California and I love these cars. I drive one myself. If you win the auction and live in California you will need to add sales tax to the final price. You have to pay salestax even from a private party but you pay this when you go to the dmv so most people don't really notice this and think "Wow that was more than I thought to register this little car". This is because the dmv collects the sales tax. With my car I collect it. I will pay the rest of the fees but please keep some money aside for sales tax. If you live outside of California you won't need to pay any sales tax (to me) or any other fee besides the price of the car. I don't charge all of these fees other dealers charge (prep fee, reg fee, doc fee, because I am just greedy fee,,,) because I do this as a hobby and love these 1st Gen Insights so want to pass on the good vibe to the buyer. They are just neat and rare cars. You could drive an entire month and not see another on the road they are so rare. If you want to fly here and drive home choose John Wayne Santa Ana Airport. I will pick you up in the Insight! It might be cheap now to fly here because summer is over and airlines like Southwest are trying to keep people flying with $69 1-way offers. If you would rather ship the car on a carrier this can be done to almost anywhere in the US for around $800 usually. Feel free to ask me any ?'s before the end of the auction. Lastly, please understand if you bid and win this auction you have entered a legally enforceable contract per Ebay's rules so be prepared to buy the car. If your bank won't give you a loan or your wife objects to you buying the car or your kid's braces cost more than you expected please have issues like this resolved BEFORE you bid. Sorry but it has to be said. On Sep-13-14 at 00:00:44 PDT, seller added the following information: I also have the cargo net that clips in the back and the canvas zipper bag Honda also offers. You can have your choice but not both as I need one or the other for my own Insight. And sorry everyone for the 10 day auction. I was not paying attention and should have picked 7 days with a buy-it-now option. On Sep-15-14 at 12:10:24 PDT, seller added the following information: The miles are actually only 30,464. And the color I meant to say for touchup is Silverstone and I've ordered a can of it so you can have this also. On Sep-15-14 at 17:12:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I will also have the Insight detailed before you come to pick it up if you'd like. It is pretty clean now but the place I use charges me $100 and they do the clay bar on the paint, clean the carpets and seats and door panels and dress the tires and even clean the motor area if needed. They are just awesome. I will pay for this of course unless you prefer to do this in your own area then I will give you the $100 I would have spent anyways. Let me know. On Sep-20-14 at 01:11:09 PDT, seller added the following information: This will be the last 1st Gen Insight with under 35,000 miles here on Ebay ever I feel. This would be a great purchase for someone that wants to keep this car in a car collection. On Sep-21-14 at 08:40:15 PDT, seller added the following information: I've received a few questions and here are the answers: The steering wheel is nice and solid (not heat stroked and loose like many Insights that have been kept outside) The electric rear hatch lock works perfectly (on many insights it is very common for the rear hatch to not release when pressed forcing you to always use the car) Yes you can use an adapter to steam music through your phone using the stock radio. (This cannot be done with the stock cd player, only the cassette version). Most importantly the IMA battery works as it should. There is one seller here on Ebay that 2 days before the end of the auction announced the IMA battery needs to be replaced! So basically he is selling a hybrid where the "hybrid part" is broken. That can be a $2,000 repair. I fortunately know how to repair these batteries myself if needed and have done so on my personal Insight. But these batteries operate on usage, charge and assist cycles basically, so the use is based more on miles not time. At only 30,500 miles my battery is practically brand new..
