Vehicle Detail
This is a true no reserve auction! This little VW Rabbit has served me well, so hopefully the winning bidder will get a great deal on it!!! 1982 VW Rabbit 1.6 n/a diesel factory A/C car (air conditioning unfortunately does NOT work right now). An A/C tech bridged the A/C wiring with his equipment and the compressor did work. The system will need to be converted and charged with a newer refrigerant, and then it will work just fine. I was quoted about $275.00 for the conversion, and to have it charged, etc. The Rabbit has a clean NC title and in very good shape for it's year. Mileage is 191,115. I drive the car a small amount so mileage may be slightly higher at the time of sale. I am selling this car because I just recently purchased a Jetta TDI. I can't keep both cars, so the Rabbit must go. I bought this car in September of 2012 and it has been my daily driver until about two weeks ago when I picked up my Jetta. While this car is in good shape for it's age, it is still an '82 model, so it isn't perfect. It runs good, very good in fact, however the winning bidder should expect to replace the clutch if planning on driving the car as a daily driver. The clutch works fine but it's starting to slip some. The slipping is only intermittent and it makes me think either the throw out bearing, or the clutch cable could be the fix. Because I haven't actually gone into the clutch to examine it, I'll advertise the car as needing a clutch. I have a video I took a few days before placing this ad, and the clutch didn't slip at all. The clutch slip is very intermittent, however I want to be as honest as I can be about the condition of the car. My family prides in bumper stickers. This is obvious by the pictures you see on the back hatch and bumper area of the car. I believe most of the stickers will remain, however some of them (if they are able to be salvaged), will be removed. Since I bought the car almost two years ago, I have repaired the brakes, replaced the front two struts, installed a new heater core, replaced the head gasket, the timing belt, water pump, installed a header (which really gave the little Diesel engine a noticeable increase in power), a new header back exhaust - including a new muffler, I installed new window gaskets, installed a new block heater, and probably a few more things I can't think of right now. After the timing belt was installed, the pump timing was adjusted by gauge, to 100 mm of advance. The car runs really good with the pump timing safely advanced, and the install of the exhaust header. The interior is in decent shape. Please disregard my index finger (in picture #7 I believe). This was totally accidental. Both front seats have cuts and tears in the fabric, and there are seat covers in place. The back seat has a few tears on the right side. The headliner is missing, and the cardboard base for the headliner is in place and still in tact. The dashboard has several cracks throughout. The carpet is ok. I wouldn't categorize much above decent in the front, and it's decent to good in the back. The driver's side door locking knob/handle is missing, and therefore the driver's side door cannot be locked. All other door locks engage, and are in working order. The exterior is good too, including the undercarriage. There is no major rust anywhere about the exterior or undercarriage of the car. She is solid. If there is any rust on the undercarriage then it is on the surface, and not eating into the frame or subframe. Any surface rust on the outer finish and body of the car is from a small uncovered scratch, etc. As the car sits now, it has a small amount of luster. A buffer with some polishing compound would make this car look really good. As it sits now, a good wash and wax would also make the car look nice. Along with the sale of the car is a set of GTI seats. The spare driver's seat picture isn't listed, as it is in the shop being recovered. The spare driver's seat is being recovered with a solid colored fabric, (couldn't find the factory GTI seat cover with stripes, etc). The solid color will resemble the darkest portion of the seat (solid navy blue in color). This will be the entire color of the seat, to include the headrest. The spare driver's seat has been recovered as well as re-foamed where needed so the fabric and design of the spare seat will appear as new (except for the GTI stripes). The extra front passenger seat is in good shape with a couple of small tears in the fabric. There is also a back seat that doesn't appear to have any tears or cuts. The right front seat and the rear seat will need to be cleaned before use. I will let the winning bidder do this :o) THE SPARE SEATS ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE, HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT BE INSTALLED BY THE SELLER, AND THE BUYER MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS IF THEY CHOOSE TO COLLECT THE SEATS WITH THE CAR. The spare seats will be out of the car and available to be picked up. I'll even help load them into another vehicle. The extra GTI seats are included with the car. THE STEREO IS NOT INCLUDED. The stereo will be removed before the auction ends. This car is available to drive and is available for inspection, with an appointment. I have not listed this car locally so it will sell here, and only here, on Ebay. I encourage anyone with the ability to come drive and look at the car to please do so. However once the winning bid has been placed, the winner is the new owner. I will answer any questions to the best of my ability, but understand this is a used car, and is now 32 years old. I offer no type of guarantee, express nor implied. I think the new owner will be very happy with their new purchase. I would like to keep the car but I can't have them all. I have videos of me driving the car that I can send if someone wants to see them. If I am able I will try to list them on YouTube. If I'm unable to put them on Youtube I'm sure I can text or email them to serious bidders. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
