Vehicle Detail

This is the first car I ever bought, purchased in November, 1971. This is also the first thing that I have ever sold on ebay. I have bought some items on ebay, however. I drove the car until the 1974-75 timeframe. At that time, I drove the car into a garage. My brother and I were going fix it up, and get it back on the road. The car ran great, but I was questioning the safety of the chassis. The engine and transaxle, and some other parts, were removed, and that was it. A marriage, four children, and 40 years later, our 912 is still waiting. The car has always been in a garage since the last time that I drove it. At the time that it was first put in a garage, as far as I can remember, everything was working. I competed in autocrosses and Solo II's up until I parked it, and had a blast. I was the second, or third, owner of the car. Based on the "VIN", it was one of the earlier 1966s, built in 1965. Considering that I bought the car in 1971, I have every reason to believe that the engine and transaxle are the originals. I bought the car at an Oldsmobile dealership. The car is, coincidentally, an Oldsmobile orange. I thought that it looked great, but it was originally Sand Beige. You can see the Sand Beige peeking out in some of the pictures. Here are some of the positives of the car. I believe that all of the glass, except the windshield, is original. I kept every piece and part that I removed. I have pictures showing about everything. The seats are in pretty good shape, but the internals of the driver's seat will probably have to be rebuilt, as I remember it kind of sagging. The dash looks good, with only one small break in the speaker grill. The hood, and engine lid, are in good shape, with just a few dents and minor rust The right front fender was replaced, so it is in good shape The wheels have correct dates; one is stamped 7/65; three are stamped 8/65; and a fifth wheel (don't remember how I got it) is stamped 3/70 I have a new front sway bar that I never installed. Original Blaupunkt AM/FM/SW radio that worked at the time I parked the car The engine can be turned over by hand, and still seems to have good compression The car has a clean title. I couldn't find the original title, so the BMV issued a new title. Unfortunately, I told them that the car had 89,000 miles, instead of the actual 84,182 miles, so 89,000 appears on the title. I also have the bill of sale from when I purchased the car. Chassis #452394 Paint Code - 6607 Engine #744114 Transaxle #226220 My hope is that someone will be able to restore the car. I won't lie; it will need a lot of work. I drove the car in the winter, and it shows in the bottom few inches. I'm just hoping that someone with the proper skills and equipment can put it back on the road. In any case, the car is being sold as a package. I don't want to part it out. It kills me to sell the car, but after 40 years, and at age 65, I don't think that I would put high odds on me doing anything with it. There is no reserve on the car. I welcome, and encourage, anyone who is interested in the car, to come and take a look at it. I want you to know what you are getting. The car is in Fort Wayne, IN, which is in the NE part of Indiana. Also, I can take additional pictures of anything of interest. The car is being sold as is, where is. I know nothing about shipping it, but will work with whatever arrangement you make to help get it to you. If you would like to see a slideshow with the 24 pictures in this listing, plus 30 more pictures, please send an e-mail to me. I will send the link to the slideshow to you. Thanks for looking at our car! On Aug-15-14 at 19:51:51 PDT, seller added the following information: Here are just a few clarifications about payment and pickup. Because of a commitment that has arisen, when picking up the car, it will have to be done no later than noon on Saturday, Sept. 6th, which is 11-1/2 days after the auction ends, or on Monday, Sept. 15th, or later. Pickup from noon, Saturday, Sept. 6th through Sunday, Sept. 14th, will not be possible. In regard to payment, I prefer that payment be made in cash. If payment will be made by cashier's check: 1) the check can only be for the amount due; 2) If the check will be delivered in person, that will have to be done during business hours, during the work week, to verify funds. If funds are drawn on an institution with a presence in Fort Wayne, IN, it should be a lot easier. I hope that this doesn't complicate anything. I just want to be sure that there are no surprises, and that the transaction is satisfactory to both of us. Thanks for your understanding!
