Lots of power, runs great! Clear TitleOil and filter change done! Historic – cheap registration and insurance! Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1991 Mercedes 300TE station wagon. This car has the big straight 6 engine, 4matic drive system, and 3rd row seat. Pretty much everything you could want in one of these old MB wagons. This car is in great shape for its age, and looks better than most 10 year-old cars. Someone has taken very good care of this car over the years. The interior is nearly immaculate, and except for the odd little ding or scratch expected for a 23 year-old car, the exterior looks amazing too. You can tell that this car lived in a garage and had a meticulous owner. I would not be surprised if I found out that this was a one-owner car. Unfortunately, the owner's manual and service booklet are missing, but I’m sure that this one was well cared for and serviced. The straight 6 engine runs well and has plenty of power. It does not overheat or smoke. The transmission shifts through all of its gears normally. The drivetrain is quiet. The suspension feels solid, and the shocks feel good. The brakes are strong, but when first starting up and driving the ABS system is a bit “hyperactive” when coming to stops, and eventually the ABS light comes on (probably indicating that the system has been deactivated), after which the braking feels normal. I’ve had this happen in other cars when brake pads had gotten old and had hardened. In those cases, simply putting new pads on solved the problem. The main problem with this car is that the oil pressure gauge shows low pressure at idle. When you start the car the pressure shoots up to 3 bars and stays there until the engine is warmed up. Once warm, the pressure is generally between 2 - 3 bars when driving, but drops to "0" on the gauge when stopped at idle. The engine does not make any noises indicating that there is low pressure, the valve train is completely quiet the whole time. Since the weather is very hot, and the last oil change was dated 3 months ago, I changed the oil and filter, and used 20W-50, but it did not resolve the problem. It is possible that this is a problem with the sender unit for the gauge, which is visible on the side of the oil filter mount. You can buy a new sender from Peach Parts: OEM = $56, non-OEM = $25 and change it. The best option is if you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge kit ($25 at Harbor Freight) and can hook it up in place of the pressure sender to differentiate between a fault with the gauge/sender vs. a mechanical fault. If the problem is not the gauge or sender, the oil pan needs to be removed and the oil pump pick-up filter examined for clogs, something that someone with moderate mechanical skills could do at home. The exterior of the car is in great shape for the age. The silvery-champagne color shines, and does not appear to have any oxidation, fading or peeling clearcoat. There is no rust, and as far as I can tell it is the original paint. This car must have lived in a garage for most of its life for the paint to be in this condition. There are the occasional dings and small scratches that one would expect for a car of this age, but no evidence of any serious accident damage. All 4 tires are in good shape with plenty of tread. The car has no rust underneath. I did notice that the CV boots on the front, driver's side axle are torn, and will need to be replaced. The others appear OK. The interior of this car is beautiful. No cracks on the dash, the tan leather seats are in great shape with no tears or stains, and are very supportive, though there is some very minor spider web cracking on the lumbar support of the driver’s seat. The headliner is clean and does not sag. The carpets and the factory mats are clean. The car has power locks, power windows, power seats, a power sunroof, heated front seats, and cruise control. There are driver and passenger airbags, the heater works, the A/C blows ice cold air, the original radio works, and the wipers and washers work. This wagon has the rear seat, so it can carry 7 people, or you can fold down the middle seat to create a huge cargo space in the back. All of the dash gauges work, and none of the warning lights are on, save the ABS light, as previously mentioned. There is a small amount of cracking on the edge of the front door pockets, and some damage to the wooden fascia of the center console area near the window controls. I’ve also found that the passenger’s side power mirror controls are not working and part of the driver’s seat adjustment that raises / lowers the rear of the seat is not only partially working. Other than that the interior is great, and the original First Aid Kit is still present and intact! This old Mercedes wagon is in great shape for its age. It is not perfect, it is not a museum piece. It has some flaws, and I have described all the flaws that I have found, but you do not see these old MB wagons in this kind of condition often. Perform some maintenance on the issues that have been listed here, and you will have a great, reliable car that can haul people and gear, and tackle snow. These old Mercedes do require care and upkeep from either a knowledgeable owner or a good independent German garage, so if you are just looking for any old station wagon you’re best to go look at a Honda or Toyota. If you are a German / European car buff, and have been looking for an old MB or other euro wagon, this is the car for you. I invite serious bidders to please come and see / drive this car. If you do, you will be bidding until the end to get it. I do have a busy schedule, so please contact me at least 24 hours ahead of time so that I can make time to meet you. I already know that I will be available on the Thursday morning this week. I am selling this car on behalf of my father because he does not use the internet. This car is owned by his small, used car dealership. Since this car is owned by a dealership, the buyer has the option of getting a 2-month temp tag, so that he or she can legally drive the car home. PLEASE READ: This car is 23 years old, so it will be sold as a historic vehicle. Payment is to be made in cash. Paypal and Bank Transfers are not cash, cash is physical, paper money. If you are a long-distance buyer, you must either show up in person to deliver the cash payment and sign / collect the titlework, or you must send a person that can do those things on your behalf. Buyer must present a valid driver’s license at the time of pick-up. A $100 deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction's end. This can be paid through Paypal. The remainder is to be paid in cash at the time of pick-up. Bidders with zero or negative feedback must contact me prior to bidding – I will delete your bids otherwise. Do not send me angry emails when you bid without contacting me, and then find that I have deleted your bids and blocked you from further bidding on the auction. This car is sold AS IS, with NO WARRANTY. Please examine the supersized photos, and contact me if you have any questions. Serious bidders are welcome to come see the car, just give me notice ahead of time so I can adjust my schedule. Since this car is being sold by a dealership, if on arrival for pick-up the buyer has a valid driver's license and proof of insurance, a 2-month temp. tag can be supplied at an additional cost of $35. ***If the winning bidder is a Maryland resident, they must pay a 6% sales tax on the final bid, and a $100 title processing fee. Payment is to be made in CASH at pick-up. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The car must be picked up within 1 week of the end of the auction.
