Runs and Drives Great! Very Reliable! 2.2L Turbo Engine, Auto Trans New Oil and Filter Change Rated at 18mpg City / 22mpg HWY Historic – cheap registration and insurance! Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1986 Mark Cross Edition Chrysler LeBaron Convertible. This car has relatively low mileage for the age, at 103k, and has been kept in pretty decent shape. It has the wonderful Chrysler 2.2L Turbo I engine, which has plenty of power for this little car. It is the same engine that was available in the high performance versions of the Dodge Chargers, Daytonas, Lancers and Omnis of the same era. This engine runs smoothly and does not smoke or overheat. It has just had an oil and filter change as well. The 3-speed auto transmission shifts well, with no slipping. The suspension feels solid and comfortable, not bouncy and worn out. The brakes are strong. The car has a good set of tires too. One problem noted is that after the oil change the car developed a very small oil leak. The occasional drip is coming from the bottom of the bellhousing. To me it looks like the source of the leak may actually be the oil pressure sensor, which over the top of the bellhousing, and the oil is making its way around the casing and down to the lowest point, but it could be the rear main seal. I changed the oil with 10W-30, so maybe putting a heavier weight of oil in would help? On the exterior of the car, the blue/grey paint has some areas of oxidation typical for the age; mainly the hood, trunk and bumpers are affected. There is no body damage. There is no rust, except for a small spot of surface rust inside the driver’s door that can easily be sanded down. The undercarriage looks solid and relatively clean too. The top could use a bleach to whiten it up a bit, but it is in good shape and does not leak. It is a power top, and goes up and down without any trouble. The interior of the car is not perfect, but it is in decent shape for the age and mileage. The dash is in good condition, with no cracks, and the door panels are very clean. The 2-tone blue/grey and silver leather seats have some minor cracking, but are still very supportive and comfortable. The carpets are a bit faded but they are not torn or stained up. There is cracking on the center armrest. The dash shows no idiot lights. The digital dash gauges all work, and show that the car has good oil pressure and does not overheat, however, the lighting is very dim and while it is easy to see the speedo and odometer, you have to look very closely to make out the other gauges. I’m not sure if the dimming switch for the dash needs to be replaced, or if it is a problem with the dash itself. You can still easily see how much fuel you have by using the “distance to empty” option on the dash computer. The car’s heater works, but the A/C blows warm air. The original radio is still installed and also works. The exterior lights and wipers work, and the power windows all work, but the rear, driver’s side window gets off track easily and needs to be helped up and down by hand. The accelerator works fine, but the spring that holds the actual pedal upright needs to be replaced. The pedal tends to flop forward a little bit when your foot is not on it. This does not interfere with the function of the accelerator, and the accelerator does not stick, just the pedal portion is affected. This would make a great little, cheap, summer car for someone. You don’t see many of these little turbo Chryslers anymore, but in the 80s they were your best option for decent fuel economy and decent power. Mopar Performance used to offer the “Super 60 Kit” that dramatically improved performance, and there was also a big cult following of performance enthusiasts with V8-eating Daytonas, Lancers, LeBarons, Omnis and even Caravans. You can still probably find the old online video of the turbo LeBaron beating the twin turbo Supra. This car is not in showroom condition, it has obviously been driven often, but for a 1986 car, 103k miles is not that much, and it has been kept in decent shape (not perfect, but decent). It has some faults, and I have described all of those faults that I have found, but it is a nice little convertible. Please read the description thoroughly, examine all of the pictures and then come see / drive the car in person before you decide to bid. I welcome bidders to come check out this car, just please give me at least 24 hours notice that you want to come so that I can adjust my busy schedule.
