Vehicle Detail

1965 Ford Mustang High-End Resto-Mod Coupe This is a truly unique, one of a kind high-end restoration of a beautiful 1965 Mustang coupe complete with the original Owner's Manuel showing the purchase from Jim Snow Ford in Paramount on June 25,1965. The body is unbelievably straight and the paint is near perfect. The body work and paint were done with the original paint color at a cost of $10,000 in 1999 and the car was stored as a rolling chassis for 11 years. I bought it is 2011 and have spent 2 years completing a high end restoration that included replacing or restoring every piece on the car while spending the money and effort to bring the car up to modern road standards with a complete TCI front end package including hand-adjustable coil-overs shocks, rack and pinion power steering, new boxed-end cross member/engine support, 11” slotted disc brakes, and a new Ididit tilt steering column all installed by a factor engineer. The shock towers were removed and opening covered to blend with the rest of the engine bay and the engine bay was then freshly painted with a black lacquer. The car comes in documentation of this work and the main components described below and an original 1965 Comet, Falcon Fairlane and Mustang Shop Manual. At the same time every single component under the hood and through the drive train was replaced. The engine is a custom built 302 turn-key engine with a Milodon rear sump oil pan to clear the TCI front end. The balanced rotating assembly features a 3.000 stroke nodular iron crank, 5.090 forged rods with ARP rod bolts, 9 to 1 compression pistons, a seasoned block that was termal cleaned and steelabrated, bored, honed and plateau honed to fit new flat top oversized pistons, head gasket surfaced, new cam, the heads had a 3-angle value job, heads were resurfaced and have 1.780 Int/1.450 Exh values, hardened exhaust seats for use with leaded or unleaded fuel and new high performance springs set up to match the cam, value seals, value guides, screw-in rocker studs, 1.6 roller tip rocker arms, oversize pistons and rings, heavy duty double row timing set, high volume oil pump, brass expansion plugs, oversized main and rod bearings to fit reground 3.00 stoke crankshaft, electronic distributor, water pump, A/T Flexplate with bolts, and Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold. All parts were painted separately prior to assembly and the engine is topped off with a chrome air cleaner cover and value covers. The cooling system includes and aluminum radiator, custom fabricated electric fan and a billet aluminum overflow reservoir. The car was completely and professionally rewired with an American Autowire “Mustang Classic Update Series Kit. This was finished off with a Lokar gas pedal with custom fabricated linkage to the engine and a new “Power Disc” logo brake pedal. The transmission is a completely hand built C-4 transmission with torque converter. It has Borg Warner clutches and band, low reverse spring and roller kit, the Tansgo shift correction package and adjustable vacuum modulator. Both the engine and the transmission were expertly installed and Hedman headers were added. These were connected to Flowmaster exhausts with a custom fabricated 2.75 inch pipe system which duct out the back thought the GT valance and the stock GT exhaust flukes. From the back the car looks like a stock GT but it has the sound and the performance of a high performance exhaust system. The rear end is a custom built 9” Ford design by John’s Industries (9”Factory.com). They built the complete rear axle assembly, powder coated it, added all steel lines and 11’ disc brakes. The rear end assembly is mounted with new 5-leaf springs and shackles and new shocks. The gas tank is new and all of the fuel lines and brake lines are stainless steel. Everything under this car is new or rebuilt and updated to modern road standards. It rides and drives like it is “on rails”. You compare driving this car to any modern car and you will not be disappointed. The steering is tight, responsive and a joy to drive. This car can be driven is daily traffic and will handle and stop like a new, modern car. All the chrome on the car is new as well as all of the weather proof seals. The windshield, rear window, wind wings, and rear quarter windows are all new and professionally installed. Only the side glass is original to the car. All the window mechanisms, door locking systems and all locks are new. The car has duel rear view mirrors with the remote inside adjustment control inside the car. Inside the doors, on all interior surfaces, and in the entire trunk the Dynamic Control DynaPads, 4-layer composite barrier material with a 1 lb. per sq. ft. vinyl barrier have been install. The material cost alone on the DynaPads was $1,500. The interior was professionally done in the white pony-deluxe seats, door panels and kick panels. The dash was professionally dyed to match and all pony deluxe chrome was added. The dash bezel and glove box cover are new and finished in the wood design (the entire glovebox is also new). All the instruments are new and the car has been updated to the “5 gauge cluster” that was part of the GT package. It has a 13” Lecarra walnut steering wheel with a Grant adaptor setup. The air conditioning is a custom Old Air Products Hurricane system with vents under both ends of the dash and a 3-duct opening under the center of the dash all painted to match the white interior. All of the carpet, including the trunk, is new black carpet professionally installed and trimmed. All knobs and controls on the dash are new as is the completed windshield wiper system. The radio is a Custom Autosound USA 66 model that was professionally installed and has AM/FM as well as Ipod connectors (both the same and the large connector to handle any Ipod or Ipad unit). The dash speakers were upgraded to the best quality available for the stock dash mounting and there are dual rear speakers on the rear-window shelf. The finishing touch to the car is the $2,000 set of billet aluminum “Magnum 500” design wheels. These allow for clearance around the 11” disc brakes that are on the 4 corners and still allows for ample clearance and turning radius for the tires. Performance tire clearance is a common problem in first gen Mustangs that is often overlooked but was fully compensated for in this car. This 2 year restoration project has been carefully done and well thought out. This is an American icon that can be driven, showed and enjoyed because everything on it has been replaced or restored. It has 500 miles on it since being completed rebuilt. This is a “new” car that will not involved constant and expensive repair and attention. The repair and attention is done and the car is ready to be driven, viewed and enjoyed. The car can be viewed in the Irvine California area. I am available to answer any questions. If you would like to see and test drive the car, please call 949-748-3626 to make an appointment. The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs but we will assist the buyer in the shipping process.
