Vehicle Detail

*Please note that I am listing this for a neighbor, however I will be able to answer most questions. Otherwise, I can get answers if needed. OVER 200 HIGH-RESOLUTION PICTURES AVAILABLE HERE: Needless to say, this is one of the finest examples of the now legendary first generation Cummins Dodge pickups. This single-owner truck was purchased new by a retired Army veteran, to be used for recreational purposes - for fishing trips and camping, along with the Lance Squire Slide-In Camper (may or may not be included. See details below) This truck was intended to be used, however the owner was gentle with all of his vehicles, and maintained them very well, with few expenses spared. He babied this truck to the best of his ability, and for this reason, it took his widow nearly 4 years after his passing to give it up. There are roughly 25,000 miles and 20 years on this truck, and what you see is relatively untouched from the way he left it. For those who don’t know, this truck is one of the last American pickups built to last a lifetime, made of steel, rather than plastic. It defines “heavy-duty”. It features a legendary 12-valve Cummins turbo diesel 5.9L inline-6 engine, mated to a Chrysler A518 4-speed automatic transmission, which transmits its power through the rear Dana 70 and front Dana 60 kingpin knuckle axle. It has more power and torque than the average person will ever need, with great fuel economy to boot. (20+ MPG have been widely reported on these trucks) The truck has been stored outside here in sunny Southern California, with a high quality fabric cover most of the time. The paint’s topcoat had lost some of its luster by 2008, and the owner paid about $3500 for a high quality repaint (invoice shown in pictures). The owner was never too fond of the original bench seat, so he bought a new 40/20/40 split bench with a folding console in the middle to replace it, just a few years ago, and it has seen very little use. The passenger seat has only been sat on a handful of times, and the center seat has never been sat on. Original bench seat included (free) if desired. The truck drives very well. Imagine driving a well-maintained 20 year-old truck with about 25,000 carefully driven miles. That’s what it drives like. No big surprises. The engine has barely been broken in. 4x4 works. AC blows ice cold. The cassette player works. Power door locks and power windows work. Tires have at least 95% tread. Zero rust. Accident-free. 10,000lb Reese trailer hitch. The repaint in 2008 was just that – a repaint. No bodywork needed. The truck has been kept clean, waxed and polished throughout its lifetime. The bumpers are original, and to the best of our knowledge, so are all four dog dish hubcaps. You can still see the handwriting from the factory on the differential covers. A thick folder with manuals, receipts, trip logs, maintenance records, and more, will be included with the pickup. The truck is equipped with all necessary brackets and wiring to the bed for attaching a slide-in camper. Holes were drilled for these things to go on when the truck was new. The pictures show these items. The radio antenna is not missing. It is removable, and was taken off for the car cover to fit, but the pictures show it sitting in the rear floor of the cab. It easily screws back on. The truck has a ProLock anti-theft system installed. You need to insert a chip into the plug, and it allows you to then start the engine. Although it may seem like it, this truck is NOT perfect! There are a few minor chips, touchups, and little details that could use some TLC. I have been up and down this truck, inside and out, and found the following problems, which are evident in the pictures: Leaf springs (mainly the front) appear to have flattened a noticeable amount, due to sitting with the weight of the 12-valve Cummins 6bt engine for the better part of 20 years. (If anything, this likely improves the original “heavy duty truck-like” ride quality) Some of the interior panels have cracks spreading out of the screws that mount them (I think I counted 3) The rear of the headliner is sagging There is a paint chip revealing a bit of the original matching paint on the passenger side, where the cowl meets the windshield. (The picture shows this area with some dirt that got stuck there, it’s not rust!) A few inches away, there are few small paint touch-ups. The plastic trims around the wheel openings had some sun damage/fading, and have been painted recently, but they ended up with some texture due to the roughness of the surface of the plastic There is some oil residue around the differential covers, however it is, for lack of a better term, “dry”, and there is no dripping. The bed has scratches inside, because there is no bedliner, in order to fit the camper. One side mirror has a hairline crack in the glass. Also the mirror base has some bubbling in the chrome. The bumpers show some signs of use, with some minor scrapes/dings. On the outside of the tailgate, around the latch handle, there is some minor corrosion behind the coating on the aluminum (shown in pictures) The new seat up front has some fading, as seen when the console is folded up. Various little stains in the carpet, and small defects inside and out, in the form of very minor dings, scratches, surface rust (not to any concerning degree). Driver’s side door armrest is not firmly attached all the way across. The plastic that should be holding it down has broken somehow. Not noticeable unless you pull it up. Behind the doors, about halfway up, there are plastic interior panels that overlap. The overlap is, from the factory, not flush, and apparently this bugged the owner of the pickup, because he put little pieces of duct tape there, probably to keep things from snagging. I have not attempted it, but I don’t doubt that some gentle cleaning will get rid of the leftover goo from the tape. The truck has been sitting for the better part of the last 4-5 years, with the exception of some rare driving to hopefully keep everything lubed. With that being said, I believe the pictures really speak for themselves. They have not been touched up for anything other than to remove identity information and license plate numbers. Now, in regards to the camper seen in many of the photos, it is NOT included in the auction, but it will be made available to the winning bidder. To put it simply, it is in nice shape for being a 1989 model. It’s a Lance Squire LS4000. The inside is in really great shape. The outside isn’t so great, but still quite nice. It has sat outdoors, covered with tarps most of the time, but the sun and the elements have still taken their toll a bit. One thing to note is that there are no known leaks, and the roof has been sealed in the past few years. It’s pretty much ready to go, but on the more long-term plan, I would recommend going through and check/replace foam and plastic/rubber seals around doors/windows as needed, and make sure all silicone caulking around trim pieces is still good. The plastic handle on the door has rotted from sun damage, so I’d probably replace that. Also, the housing for the retractable awning has plastic sides, and one of them cracked, so it needs that piece replaced or at least repaired if possible. Finally, I’d grease up any moving parts, and give it a good wax job, since the paint is looking a little dry. Basically just an all-around TLC tune-up for this 25 year-old camper. Other than that, it has a new heavy duty battery, new refrigerator, and everything seems to work fine. It wasn’t used too many times. There have been a few minor repairs over the years, but it was taken care of really well. The two pictures next to thumbs show what appear to be two small non-threatening dents in the aluminum skin. The original plastic covering on the floor is still there from the factory! A full carpet kit was purchased to cover it too. The camper sleeps 2 comfortably in the main bed. The dinette converts into a small bed, and the cabinet over the dinette folds out into another small bed. A family of 6 could probably fit with a little effort. There is a 3-burner stove/oven, refrigerator, heater/water heater, a shower and toilet. A monster air conditioner was added, and this thing gets seriously cold in a matter of seconds/minutes. There is no microwave, no generator. There is a TV antenna that cranks up using a crank inside by the bed, and a small 12V TV is included with the camper. The camper is REALLY clean inside, and the owners were nonsmokers, so there are no bad or weird smells inside. It has a manual jack on each corner for lifting, and it comes with a pair of beefy steel stands that keep it at the perfect height when not in use. It comes with mirror extensions for the truck mirrors, to account for the added width when carrying the camper (shown in the cabinet over the dinette). Turnbuckles are included as well, to attach to the brackets that are mounted on the Dodge. Hoses to fill/drain tanks are included, but I’m not sure if they are all still good, since it’s been sitting a few years. All tanks appear to be good. All glass is good. As stated above, the pictures really speak for themselves. I should add that the truck was not washed before the photos. It only had the usual hand wash and detail a few weeks or maybe months prior to the photos being taken. The truck has never in its life been in a car-wash machine. He had a habit of hand-washing it himself, until he was unable to do so, then they took it to be professionally hand washed and detailed on a regular basis. The camper was not even cleaned before taking the photos, but you can barely notice the difference, since it was simply kept clean. The Reserve Price has been set at a generously FAIR price. We are aware of that. We know the truck could be worth more, but we will let the bidders decide. We have NOTHING to hide. This pickup truck is a solid investment. Buying cars long distance can be a challenge, but bidders can bid with confidence. You will not get a truck as good as this by restoring for the same amount of money. Email us with ANY questions before you bid please. My impeccable FEEDBACK speaks for itself. Don’t let the few listed defects scare you away. Things like this will be encountered with nearly anything that is 20+ years old. Rather than leaving bidders with the uncertainty of not knowing what to expect, I’d rather be upfront and list all known imperfections. As you can see, we have gone through this truck inside and out, with great pictures for you to rest assured that this is an accurate description of the listed item. We STRONGLY advise and invite prospective bidders to come see everything BEFORE bidding. There is a small chance that I may have missed something, and all sales are final! I encourage bidders to find their preferred shipper if needed. (as far as I know, transportreviews.com and uship.com are great resources) I highly recommend a shipper that is fully licensed and bonded! Once the keys to this truck are handed over to anybody other than ourselves, we are no longer responsible. We won’t ship until the title is transferred to the new owner. We are not interested in shipping overseas, so if any overseas bidders are planning on bidding, please discuss with us first! CLEAR CALIFORNIA TITLE IN HAND Truck must be picked up 14 days of payment clearing, unless other arrangements have been made before the auction ends. You can clearly see what to expect with this pickup truck, I don’t foresee any surprises, and my feedback speaks for itself! EMAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE!! No problem helping it to the docks or nearby (within 20 miles) for shipping anywhere. If there is a winner, please email me when the auction ends, and say Hi and we can take it from there. Payment-wise, CASH IS KING!!! $500 Paypal deposit required within 48 hours of auction’s end. The only exception is if the winning bidder is coming with cash for the entire amount within 48 hours. Do not pay the entire sum through Paypal. Please message me beforehand if paying cash is going to be a problem…Not having enough money is not my problem. You either have it, or you don’t. I may be able to take cashier’s check with proof of funds. Other forms of payment must be discussed before bidding. In the event of another form of payment, the payment must clear before the truck can move, sorry. Meeting locally at a bank and making the transfer is the best way to go. That way the money gets transferred without any doubt, and title gets signed, keys get handed over, handshake, done. Remainder of total should be paid within 7 days of auctions end, unless another arrangement is made.
