I bought the bike from the first owner in 1979 with just over 10,000 mi on it. He bought the bike new from a BMW dealership. It had been garaged and well maintained for most of its life, but has been stored the past 10 years. The last dealer maintenance involved new tires, front boots, cleaning and coating the inside of the tank and a complete going over. It has seen few miles since then, but has been cleaned up and ridden a little a couple seasons. Though the tires have less than 1,000 miles on them, they are 10 years old. The basic drive line is solid. The bike was always adult owned. I put a new clutch and pressure plate in around 11,000 only because a bad adjustment by the first owner had damaged the plate. The original tool kit is there and most of the manual. I had to store it away for health reasons and have decided to let it go. It will need complete maintenance, including cleaning and adjusting the carbs, before it can be ridden. The tank and fenders will polish up nice, but there are many parts — spokes, nuts and bolts, etc, — that should be replaced to improve cosmetics. In addition, the material on the seat is starting to go and will need to be replaced eventually. It will need a new battery. I have always used genuine BMW parts and have spent more time taking care of it than riding it over the years. The pictures show the current state of affairs — I didn't even wipe it off for the pictures. The last two or three pictures show the bike the last time I cleaned it up. This is a great project bike that I am sorry to give up. Most of the needed work is cosmetic. The basic mechanics are very solid. The engine is just getting broken in. Send me any questions you have.
