Vehicle Detail
This 2001 (7/01) is a nice car that gets great gas mileage of course because of the design of the car. It is a California car and has not rust. These are mainly made of aluminum but there are still suspension parts, engine bolts, even the door catch in the door jams are made of regular old metal and this rusts. If you buy a car from a snow state expect rust (which never sleeps and just eats away at your car daily) because of the salted roads to help the snow melt. My car has none of this nonsense. It was sold to me by Honda Research and Development which means it was well taken car of. My car is made of aluminum, weighs only 2000 pounds and has very low wind drag. That is 1000 pounds less than the new style Insight or Toyota Prius. The recommended Bridgestone Potenza tires are in good condition and the a/c is super cold. All of the vin stickers are in place and all body panels are original. The oil drip pans are in place which is important for mpg due to aerodynamics. The IMA battery assists and chargers correctly and I also have a brand new grid charger if you would like this as part of the sale. I have the am/fm/tape oem radio with 2 brand new Kicker 6 1/2 inch speakers in the doors. You can even use an adapter with the casette and stream music through the stock radio. It has has a clean title, clean CarFax with no accidents and never has to be smogged! These cars last well into the 400,000 miles mark because they are so lite and just do less work to get around. It will also go up in value because 1st Gen Insights are pretty rare. Honda did not build many of them (17,000 worldwide) and they were very expensive new, so expensive in fact that Honda did not profit from them. They just wanted to be 1st in the technology. This model of Honda Insight is still to this day the absolute king of mpg of all hybrids. Even today in 2014 no Prius or other hybrid car can beat it. Sure you can buy an expensive plug in car but do you really want to spend that kind of money for a 5 mile per hour charge rate? Talk about limitations. Tesla owners talk on chat pages about "plugging in at RV parks for a faster charge",,,sounds like fun. Even the less expenisive Nissan Leaf travels just 84 miles before you are out of juice. The proof that the 1st Gen Insights rule supreme in MPG is here: www motherearthnews com/green-transportation/miles-per-gallon-cars-zb0z11zblon.aspx Just imagine how much money you will save on gas each day, each week, each month, each year. It adds up quickly. And the 1st Gen Insight is a 2 seater. How often do you see commuters going to work with more than just themselves? Here in California hardly anyone. For the times you need to bring passengers just chip in a few dollars for gas and have someone with a bigger car drive. I am a small car dealer (just me as a hobby) here in Southern California. I love the 1st Gen Insight and have one of my own I drive daily. If you win the auction and live in California you will need to add salestax to the final price. I am supposed to collect this at the time of sale. I can do the dmv for you for free as the dealer only dmv is almost walking distance from where I live. If you live out of state you will not have to pay California salestax of course. If you do live far from me and want to fly here choose John Wayne Santa Ana Airport and I will pick you up. With this kind of gas mileage you could make a nice little vacation driving home for next to nothing. You can even sleep in the back because there is actually enough room oddly enough (if you lay on your back with your legs over the edge towards both front seats that are pushed all the way up. Try it and you will see what I mean). This is the only Insight I've ever seen with this low of mileage and certainly the only Honda R&D car I've ever seen. I hope you like it as much as I do. Lastly, this is not a new car of course and looks like any other car you see in your own neighborhood that is 13 years old. So please look around at other cars today that are 13 years old or thereabouts so you can develop a realistic expectation of what condition cars this old are in. I've had a few ?'s about my floormats and yes they are 13 years old so they are not nice and new looking but they are fine. The paint on my roof is a bit faded also (common on all older Hondas) but with a good detail the paint and mats will look much better I feel. I have also received a few ?'s about the IMA battery. The IMA is rechargeable. It does not age with time like a flashlight battery for example. It ages with use so this means charging and discharging cycles. My battery has 29,000 miles of this so it is in really good condition. Remember the car was also owned by Honda Corp so I am positive it has been kept in tip top shape.
