Vehicle Detail
Hand built in August 1977 and up for your consideration is number 390 of this iconic, storied automobile lineage. I purchased this car in Seattle from a Montana cowboy in about 1982. I am the third owner. It has never been in an accident of any kind. For the first 22 of our 32-year life together, the car was well maintained, driven daily, reliable despite it's reputation, and garage-stored, in Seattle, Malibu, South Mississippi and New Orleans. In 2002, as I was selling my New Orleans house with a garage, I posted this Lotus on Ebay. I let the listing expire after I realized that the overheating problem I had recently experienced was a from blown head gasket. The headgasket was repaired in 2004, along with extraneous details to make the car ready for the auction blocks, which it was, but I wasn't. Delays, personal issues, time passed and the car sat outside. Then it had sat for too long, and it has been sitting ever since. The car was in perfect selling condition in 2004 but now it is a different story. It is non-functioning. Consider it a complete restoration inside and out after not having been driven in 11 years and setting outside. I have the (dusty) engine cover (in photos) the original jack and mechanic's pouch, original spare, original owners' manual. and special order MOMA Lotus steering wheel. Included in the sale are a portion of the parts manual, a too-large car cover, I have the original "Styled by Giugiaro" side emblem - that the car washers knocked off, and the book "Lotus Esprit" by Jeremy Walton. I'm in New Orleans, the car is available for viewing except June 18, 19 and 20, and there may be a delay answering questions on those days. Mississippi title and (expired) registration. Emissions device is missing from the car. Low starting price and no reserve. Please enlarge all photographs. Again, photographs are overly encouraging. The buyer is responsible for arranging pickup or shipping and cost thereof. I will assist the buyer any way I can.On Jun-14-14 at 20:05:25 PDT, seller added the following information: If the car is left uncovered, there is water infiltration during a rain. The carpet will be damp. The car is missing the chrome-like plastic pieces on each side of the roof, perhaps this is the culprit, or maybe there is a leak around the door gaskets. There is no visible mold but the seat rails are corroded and one is broken. On Jun-16-14 at 11:52:17 PDT, seller added the following information: The following are answers to questions posted by an interested viewer. I was unable to post the question and answer session, so I cut and pasted for everyone's information. The odometer when out. I had it repaired. It went out again, I gave up. The 64,000 is an estimate. Yes, I have the other mirror, but it is non-functioning. Both side-mirrors are after market and not in the original style of the 77 Esprit. Originally the car had simple rectangular mirrors. (this look may be more easier to duplicate.) In case your photograph didn't capture it, the rear view mirror is missing, and there is a crack in the windshield. Service history- in about 1998 the car was taken to Greff Motors, Metairie, Louisiana, a highly respected sports car center. The car was running warm, we asked for a thorough going over "whatever the car wants, it gets." This list from the invoice-new water pump, radiator hose top, radiator hose , cam cover gasket, timing belt, thermostat, thermostat gasket, timing belt tensioner, coolant hose, v-belt, belt, 8x16 bolt, top hat bushing, rubber washer, PH pan blk sms 10x3/4, radiator conditioner, seat knob, braided fuel hose (FT) small hose clamp, oil, SPDO cable long, switch fan, temp trans,Speedo drive, o ring, bushing drive gear, speedo gear, speedo cable, zy flat washer, HXHD PT m8x55, In about 2002 I began experiencing an over heating problem which turned out to be a blown headgasket. This work was done by Schawarth Motors, another reliable exotic repair shop. They did the headgasket work, tuned, flushed and replaced fluids, new battery, points, plugs. To the best of my memory, there were no any issues with the suspension. The brake system will probably need full attention, from non-use. Beverly Hills Repair Center, another respected shop on Lincoln Blvd. in Santa Monica, added an extension to the radiator, Nov. 1989. The car ran cool for about 10 years. The 2002 blown headgasket may have occurred because the fans didn't come on, unsure, but I know it is repaired. No additional parts are included. Please note rust stains at passenger headlight. On Jun-17-14 at 12:25:35 PDT, seller added the following information: I have photographs of the underside of the car, please email and request them. I am unable to attach them to the listing. On Jun-22-14 at 19:47:03 PDT, seller added the following information: My driveway gate opening is 111", once transporter is through the gate there is room to drive past the car and maneuver to get in front of it to hydraulically load it. Then it needs to be backed out of the same gate.
