Vehicle Detail

This 1970 Javelin has a 360 and 4 speed. It was last driven regularly around 2004 and has been sitting outside since. The engine appears to be either the original engine or correct for the year. I went through the engine and freshened it up in the early 2000s; it appeared to still be the original assembly at that time, original gaskets, bearing inserts etc. all consistent with 1970 manufacture. The engine is standard bore and still has the stock pistons which were in decent shape. The heads are 3196291C, and were fitted with new valves, springs etc. The crank is 0.010/0.010. The block has had the internal oil jumper installed under the intake manifold. The rocker arms are roller rockers and have few miles, but have sat for about 10 years, same with the cam. The transmission is the Borg Warner T-10. I put new bearings and synchros in it and it worked good, but again it has sat for about 10 years. The car has the AMC 20 rear end, with 3.54 gear and open differential. Power brakes, manual steering, no air conditioning. The car has the GM alternator upgrade but comes with the original alternator also. When I bought the car it was sold as a Mark Donohue but there is no build sheet. The VIN does decode as the 360 engine at least, and the car has the spoiler and sticker, also has the ram air hood but no ram air parts. It has SST emblems. The speedometer is 120 mph. VIN AOM797P208102. The car has significant rust as shown in the pictures. The rear quarterpanels and the doors have rust. The engine crossmember dropped on one side and the floors and rockers are rough. There are holes visible in the drivers side front sub-frame. I have tried to show this in the pictures, like around the front swaybar mount. The trunk is not as bad as the floor but has some holes. The front fenders appear useable, and the windshield is nice. A lot of the trim was replaced by the prior owner in the late 1990s and is in decent shape for a driver. I have a clear KY title in my name. Will help load and I can deliver within a few hundred miles for expenses. On Jun-18-14 at 19:24:29 PDT, seller added the following information: This 1970 Javelin has a 360 and 4 speed. My "bottom dollar" is the reserve, which has been met, so the car will sell to the highest bidder at the close of the sale. The front brakes are disc brakes. I checked the block visually for freeze damage and it looks good. I checked the antifreeze and it was bright green and measured good to -20F. It has not reached -20F here in the last 15 years. I drained the gear oil out of the transmission. It was clear and appeared as new. I took off the side (shift fork) cover and there is no rust visible on any of the internal components. The gear cluster and synchro teeth look like new, with sharp points. I went through the transmission in 2001because the input shaft bearing was noisy. So I installed a new input shaft bearing and standard rebuild parts...synchros, thrust washers, countershaft bearings, etc. The trans worked good and personally I would run it as is. I shot a picture which I will try to add to the listing. The rear frame members look good, and so does the engine compartment, including under the battery, control arm mounts, shock towers, steering box mount. The most significant rust damage is the drivers front frame with holes various holes in it, the engine crossmember attachment bolts rusted through and detached on the driver's side, the floorpans and trunk floor, inner rockers and rear quarter panels. The VIN tag is present on the driver's door and the number matches the dash tag. The trim codes are present also, let me know if you want them. When the engine was rebuilt in 2001 it was in really good shape. Some details: ARP rod bolts, Reed cam 105-TM272H-TM276H (272/276 duration, 0.502 lift with 1.6 rocker), 1.6 rockers from American Performance, ARP rocker studs, knurled guides, honed block - no ridge to speak of, Offy intake, Pertronix Flamethrower II Coil and Ignitor ignition module in stock distributor, Total seal gapless rings, McLeod Clutch 360954/260841 disc, Edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke. On Jun-18-14 at 19:40:18 PDT, seller added the following information: OK, so I can't add more pictures because there are already 24, and can't delete any to make room because the auction is in progress. I shot some pictures of the inside of the transmission, the sides of the block and the bright green antifreeze in the tester showing -20F. Let me now if you would like those or any others and I can email them. On Jun-19-14 at 04:09:03 PDT, seller added the following information: The motor turns over freely by hand, no sign of being stuck or having rust in the cylinders. I pulled the plugs and oiled the cylinders before doing this.
