Vehicle Detail
1991 Suburban V1500 4x4 1GNEV16K6MF112320 5.7 liter TBI This truck was originally sold on February 11, 1991 to RB Grammer in Victoria, Texas. He kept it in his garage for his entire ownership. On September 14, 2012, it was sold to Mr. Van Hook with 34,653 miles on it. He kept it parked in his garage; after a year, his wife got tired of it sitting in the garage and he sold it to me – he had only driven it 90 miles in one year. I bought it in July 2013 and the odometer read 34,741. The factory original white walls and running boards were still on the truck, so naturally, I drove it immediately to Discount Tire and bought BF Goodrich TAKOs and removed the fiberglass running boards – 20 year old tires won’t last long. The truck now has 39,210 – I’ve put on almost 4500 miles in a year. However, it’s not my daily driver – I have a 2013 Suburban 2500 for that. But I did drive the truck around Houston in any weather and took it Brenham (65 miles each way) quite a bit. Even in 100 degrees in traffic, the AC is cold and the engine temp hangs at 180. After I got it, I had it aligned, had the window tint put on over the factory tint, and replaced the squeaky belt tensioner assembly with a new one and a new serpentine belt. The rear end was sagging a bit (like all these old Burbs seem to do) so I had a 1” zero-rate block put on the rear to level it out. I also had my excellent electronics installer remove the stock radio (I still have it – it works great) with an Alpine deck so I could use the ipod in the center console and Bluetooth for my iPhone. Also, I had a MITO rear view mirror installed so I could have homelink for my garages – it has the temp and auto-dimming functions too. The truck has lived in my AC/heated garage for the past year. It’s all very original but the 1991 GM build quality isn’t quite like my 2013. But it is as it was built. My paint gauge (I like old classics) says that the paint is all original with no resprays – which is remarkable because many of these Suburbans had paint that would peel off after a few years. I attribute this to the garaged life it has led. No dash cracks. No interior fading. No funny smells – smells like factory GM cloth. Runs and drive wonderfully. Stops well, idles well, doesn’t wander. The four-wheel drive works. The AC is very cold and it’s never been opened – front and rear AC. No leaks, doesn’t smoke at startup or otherwise. Engine bay has never been cleaned – it actually just looks that way. Always starts right up first try. Passed emissions inspection without incident. Known issues – all are listed – see the last few pictures for a visual: · The windshield cracked on me about a month ago – took a highway rock. It’s the original laminated windshield so I have mixed feelings about replacing it because it’s off to the side and not in my view. · The rear barn doors have a big mark on them like something slid down and scratched the paint. · One big deep knick in the paint. · A couple of stains on the carpet – center hump and rear cargo. · A couple of paint rubbings where the running boards mated to the body around the wheel wells. No rust anywhere. No mechanical issues. None. I never towed with it, the previous owner never towed with it, and I don’t think the original owner ever towed with it. Feel free to drive it to Alaska – it’s ready. Some of the original factory options on this truck: · Light French Blue Metallic paint on dark blue cloth · 5.7 liter TBI · 4-speed transmission with OD · HD oil cooler and transmission oil cooler · 3.42 limited slip rear axle · Towing package · Front quad shocks (didn’t know this option existed) · Power side mirrors (not an easy task when you have vent windows too) · Power everything · Front/rear AC · Original rubber floormats · Tilt and cruise control · Lighting group with overhead console · Automatic locking hubs · Front power seats with high back buckets and center console · Third-row bench · Factory tinted windows The truck is fantastic. It’s not a show truck, but I bought it because it was so amazing in its condition due to the owners before me who took very good care of it. And I love the color – very unique. I’ve got to shrink my classic cars – I just sold a low-mile Mercedes wagon and now it’s time for this one. The truck is on the west side of Houston; clear title is in my name. I won’t disclose the reserve but it’s reasonable. On May-29-14 at 19:26:28 PDT, seller added the following information: I was asked to take a couple of pics of the cargo area underneath the stained carpet. Checking for rust. Figured I'd share the pictures with all...
