Vehicle Detail
Carb: This engine comes equipped with a Rochester Quadrajet M4ME carburetor. These carbs are a notorious pain-in-the-arse! Every time I've used one of these carbs I end up encountering periodic cold start issues. It will start every time, but instead of just depressing the gas pedal once it has to be pumped multiple times on colder days. While this is not necessarily a problem I find it to be an irritation! Personally if I were going to keep this car any longer I was going to replace that carb with an Edelbroch Perfomer series. Something along the lines of this: http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/1413/10002/-1 http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/181349/10002/-1 Engine: This engine is very strong and will last a long time. It is a 425 V8 7.0l from a '79 Cadillac Deville. You'll need that information if you want to replace any parts! The timing and the points are currently set to the proper position, so I would not suggest messing with it. Fuel: If possible, you want to use ETHANOL FREE GAS! Remember, in 79 there was no ethanol in the gas! You will get much better performance and less vibration/sluggishness if you run ethanol free gas. Also I encourage you to put a bottle of carburetor cleaning in the tank each time you fill up. With a big open engine compartment you can get a lot more dust/dirt/grime in there than with a modern car. Transmission: The transmission is a TH400 3-speed. It shifts very smooth and all fluids were recently changed along with a new pan. However, there is one notorious problem with these transmission (on this engine) - the front seal goes bad fairly often. When that happens you need to drop the tranny, pull out the seal and pop in a new one. It is literally a $5 fix but will take you some time. I've done it twice now and I suspect the seal will need replaced in the not too distant future. There is an large caliber aftermarket transmission cooler mounted to the passenger frame rail - it has been recently upgraded so you should be good on tranny temperature. Suspension: The front suspension is in very good shape, I replaced most of the front suspension and recently lubricated and greased all the fittings. The rear suspension is a bit too stiff for my liking. Personally I would replace the coil springs and shocks (which are new) with coil-overs. This will make the ride much softer. Before choosing a coilover I would go to a suspension shop and have the car weighed on all four corners. If after running the car for a while you start to feel excess vibration in the rear-end check the tightness of the U-bolts on the rear-axle. That type of rear-end suspensions needs re-torqued every once in a while. Brakes: The front brakes are in perfect shape - nothing needs changed there. You may consider swapping the rear brakes to power-disk. If not I would consider replacing the rotors within the next 10-15K miles. If you do that it would also be advisable to flush the master cylinder too. Other information: - there is no lettering on the column shifter. The shift pattern is the standard P, R, N, D, 2, 1 - the center of the vehicle is has the lowest level of clearance where the dual exhaust wraps alongside the transmission pan. There is just about 3.75" of clearence. Be careful not to run anything over. If you must go over a high speed bump then do it slowly or you will hit the exhaust and/or transmission pan! - the battery is a high performance duralast that is only a few months old and comes with some level of warranty from autozone (either 3yrs or 8yrs). If you have any problems the warranty is under my cell phone number. - all four wheels have spacers on them to prevent rubbing. They are properly torqued but if you go to rotate the tires just make sure they are tight. - I currently have the cigarette lighter disconnected. If you don't smoke I would suggest replacing that with a 12V power plug (for GPS, etc). - the drivers seat is powered and can adjust in several ways - the controls are on the front left of the seat bottom. - the fuel tank is located in the trunk; lift the trunk door and you will see a small handle. Lift up the handle and that will open the compartment to the tank. On May-22-14 at 17:50:57 PDT, seller added the following information: VIN #: 33408361 I looked through the paperwork and I DO HAVE A TITLE FOR THE CAR, but it's for Kentucky. I can provide a title number on request (which also has previous title number on it... so that's two titles you can trace car with). It's notarized and was from Brook Motors (St. Auburn MA) to a person, who then sold it to the person I bought it from. I have bill of sales for all these transactions I think. This isn't a clear title, but hopefully this will help you get a clear title in your state. If you have any questions, please contact me.
