Description to followOn May-05-14 at 09:43:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello Fellow eBayers! You are viewing my friends 1978 L82 Corvette. This car is almost completely original. These cars are notorious for being modified, molested and this car is almost as fresh as it can be. This car also has an impressive list of options including the Gymkhana handling package, rear speakers, air conditioning, power locks, L82 engine, tilt/telescopic steering wheel and more. (See window sticker) My long time friend purchased this car from his friend who bought the car new. All clear transferable paperwork is still in the original owners name matching the dealer invoice. The car was being driven from late 1978 through 1982 as a cherished jewel. It was parked in the garage to hibernate for 1982-1983 New York winter under a cover and did not come out until 2013! My friend always lusted for this car due to it's extremely rare colors and options. He bought the car and the two of us were having a blast going through all the systems to get the car ready for road use again. He then found out his wife has stage 4 Lymphoma and the car has been sitting in my garage since. Due to his circumstances he does not have time to continue on with this dream car and asked me to help him sell it. I will break the car down into sub-categories to describe it most accurately. Body and paint-Being the extremely low mileage and that the car has been out of the sun for over 30 years, the paint is in great shape. There are some very minor scratches that can be touched up but we decided to try to keep the car as honest and original as possible. I also took a picture of the edges of the headlight covers to show some paint lifting on the edges. This is common because the covers are aluminum. The only other flaw I found is one small section on the left front fender where I can see a very faint blend line. I don't know if it's factory or there was a scratch early in its life but there is no sign of collision. I am not a Corvette expert and if you are please feel free to make an appointment to come see the car. The Frame- The frame is in absolutely beautiful condition. I cannot stress enough how most of these C3 Corvettes have had welding/repairs done and this car has not had any. I put the car on my drive on/storage lift and there is no rot anywhere on this frame. There is some surface rust (see picture) that you would get on a brand new car/truck. There are no signs of collision or damage. The Engine- the high performance L-82 starts up immediately with no smoke. We purchased a tune up kit for the car including the factory black spark plug wires that I will install prior to the winner picking up. The only modification is long tube headers into the factory exhaust. The engine compartment has a very nice factory "tidy" look about it that from looking at other cars for sale is very rare to see. The tachometer seems to work when it wants to but all other gauges are in good working order. The Transmission- The MX1 option Turbo 400 is operating properly with crisp shifts and no hard or slipping engagement between. The original owner had the dealer install a Hurst shifter that looks very period correct and cool! This can be easily changed out if the new owner prefers. The Brakes- We spent the most time here. It has a new master cylinder, all hoses and calipers. The pedal is right there and the brakes are very powerful. This is an area we decided to favor time not mileage and make the car safe. The Tires- I have photos of pulling the car out of the garage on its original Good year GT radials. We saved them in case you want to turn this into a museum car or go display only. My friends plan was to drive and enjoy so we mounted some new period looking new B.F Goodrich radials. The low mileage original tires will of course come with the car. The Wheels- The car is fitted with the YJ8 Aluminum wheel package. These are in. Very nice shape. I gave them a quick wipe with some mothers polish but if you were to spend some time on them they could look like chrome. The Interior- This absolutely beautiful light beige leather interior shows it's mileage and not it's age. Other than what appears to be some alarm switches on the small panel under the steering wheel (easily replaceable) this is a untouched interior. It has retained its optional upgraded factory stereo and looks like the whole interior has been in a time capsule. The original T top bags are neatly folded in the back of the car. The Passenger T top is missing the small headliner panel and I will check with my friend to see if he has it. If not these are easily available from one of the many Corvette parts distributors. Lights and Electronics- Everything except for the aforementioned intermittent tachometer is in working order. The power windows work smoothly and quickly. All the lights and the radio are in good working order. In Conclusion this is a very special car. My friend is hoping it goes to a collector who will cherish it. It is being sold no reserve so it will be sold as we are starting the bidding at $1,978 like its special 25th anniversary year! Please feel free to ask me any questions that I did not answer already in my description...please read it. The car must have the non refundable deposit within 24 hours and the balance and pickup within 7 days. If you have less than 10 feedbacks and I don't here from you I will cancel your bid. I cannot deal with time wasters. In response to the question I often get when I am selling a car "can I drive it home to Alaska or Argentina or the North Pole...? My answer is I don't know! Can you? It is in good operating order but I cannot foresee what could happen as the car is an old car and there are no guarantees...people get stuck in new cars just the same. I just drove my 1965 Mustang from New York to Cleveland and back with no issue so it just depends on your mechanical skills and your guts and your luck! Bid to own and Good Luck!!
