Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is the most awesome Cafer Racer you've ever seen, my 1971 BMW R60/5. You will be the coolest kid on the block, at the Ace Cafe, or wherever you are on this bad boy. It is in great condition, and I am the second owner in it's 43 years on this planet, Earth. It has been converted from it's former glory to the incarnation you see here. Resprayed gloss black, has a Airtech Streamlining cafe tail and shorty front fender. The exhaust is a 2-1, giving it a few extra horsepower. Clubman bars up front, custom cat eye tail light and turn signals in the rear. Also included with the sale is the original fenders (Rattle can sprayed gray), original refurbished seat, original luggage rack, turn signals, and rear pegs. Just about everything (save the exhaust and bars) if you want to restore her to originality. The good: turn signals, brake light, brakes, headlight all work. Runs and shifts smoothly through all the gears. Custom seat by Pirate Upholstery (Does seats for Orange County Chopper). Like most /5s, when it's warmed up she runs like a top. Less than 200 miles on the Metzeler tires (Still have the little rubber spiky things on them). Awesome early 70s styling, great sound. Stops like a bike with 43 year old drum brakes should. (Slowly) Paint is in ok condition. Passes NY State inspection with no issues. Lovingly cared for by European Cycle Services of Middletown, NY. The bad: There's really only two things wrong with this bike. Firstly, (Like many /5s) the electronic starter button is finicky. It seems that whenever it is a warm, dry day, it starts no problem. If it is cold and/or wet, it doesn't work at all. I have rebuilt it twice, put a new button and wiring harness on, and nothing seems to help. If it's acting up, I either pop start or kick start it. In the warm weather, it turns over on the 1st kick. Secondly, the odometer is a liar. It reads 22,232 miles. The actual mileage is 72,232. The first digit spins freely, and at any given time, you could have 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, even 90 thousand miles. But the actual is 72. Other than the two aforementioned problems, it really is a great bike. It really hurts to sell her, but sell her I must. All NY State motorcycles older than 1973 have a transferrable registration... they do not have a title. If you are in New York State, you will have no trouble registering this bike. Please check in your local municipality how this will affect the registration of the bike. Again: This bike has no title... it has a transferable registration. I require you to have at least a 95% positive feedback rating, with at least 10 transactions, or I will cancel your bid. Up for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. I require a $200 non-refundable paypal deposit within 24 hours of the auction close, and the balance due within 7 days. I WILL NOT ship this bike. You must pick up in Gardiner, NY, zip code 12525, or I will drop off at a shipping location that you pre-arrange within 50 miles of 12525. Good luck, and happy bidding! On Apr-13-14 at 13:51:45 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE! I forgot to mention that the neutral light does not work. It has never worked as long as I've owned the bike, and it has never bothered me, so I just plain forgot to include it in the description. (It is pretty obvious where neutral is on a 4 speed)On Apr-14-14 at 06:53:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Also included in sale is the original tool roll and a ratty old tank bag.
