Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1989 Mercedes 300 SE sedan. This one has been kept in pretty good condition for its age. The big straight 6-cylinder is a very reliable unit, and has plenty of power. It does not smoke or overheat, and the oil pressure is good. The transmission shifts normally through all of its gears without any slipping. The brakes are exceptionally strong as well. This car was made to run on the autobahn, and it drives beautifully on the highway, with good acceleration and passing power. It also has the smooth, but firm, ride quality that is expected of a luxury European sedan. The exterior of the car is not bad, but does show its age. There is no major rust that I can see on the body, but there are the occasional scrapes and dings that tend to occur with time. The paint on the roof has oxidized, the rear passenger’s side door has a big dent in it, and there is a small dent on the rear corner on the driver’s side. The driver’s door has some scuffing on it as well. Underneath, the car is solid, with no rust. One of the 2 main hood latches may need adjustment because it is not locking when you shut the hood. The other main latch works fine, as well as the safety catch. I have driven at 70mph on the highway without any sign of the hood trying to lift on that side. Occasionally when sitting at a stoplight I’ll hear a soft rhythmic thump from the undercarriage. It sounds like a loose or broken exhaust hangar that is allowing the exhaust pipe to thump lightly against the suspension or body. There is a small drip of fuel coming from the gap between the EHA valve and the fuel distributor, which is a common problem in these old Mercedes due to the deterioration of 2 tiny O-rings that cost about $5 and take 15 minutes to change. I have already ordered a new set of O-rings and will have them installed before the end of the auction. The interior of the car could use a good clean up. The carpets are stained, and the floor mats are missing. The drivers seat cushion is torn, and there is some cracking on the armrests, but the other seats are in good shape, and all provide good support. The dash is not cracked, and the headliner is in good shape. The power seats, windows, mirror, locks and sunroof all work. The heater works so well that it will make you sweat on a cold day, and the original Becker radio works, but the power antenna does not go up, so it has some static. The wipers and all of the exterior lights work. The dash shows a warning that there is an external bulb burned out, but I can’t find one on the car. There is also a warning light that says “SRS.” This would be a good car for someone looking for a classic Mercedes sedan. This car is not in showroom condition, it has some faults, and I have described all of those faults that I have found, but it is a nice, reliable car. Please read the description thoroughly, examine all of the pictures and then come see / drive the car in person before you decide to bid. I welcome bidders to come check out this car, just please give me at least 24 hours notice that you want to come so that I can adjust my busy schedule. I am selling this car on behalf of my father because he does not use the internet. This car is owned by his small, used car dealership. Since this car is owned by a dealership, the buyer has the option of getting a 2-month temp tag, so that he or she can legally drive the car home. PLEASE READ: This car is over 20 years old, so it will be sold as a historic vehicle. Payment is to be made in cash. Paypal and Bank Transfers are not cash, cash is physical, paper money. If you are a long-distance bidder, ensure that you will be able to have someone bring the cash payment and collect the titlework. A $100 deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction's end. This can be paid through Paypal. The remainder is to be paid in cash at the time of pick-up. Bidders with zero or negative feedback must contact me prior to bidding – I will delete your bids otherwise. Do not send me angry emails when you bid without contacting me, and then find that I have deleted your bids and blocked you from further bidding on the auction. This car is sold AS IS, with NO WARRANTY. Please examine the supersized photos, and contact me if you have any questions. Serious bidders are welcome to come see the car, just give me notice ahead of time so I can adjust my schedule. Since this car is being sold by a dealership, if on arrival for pick-up the buyer has a valid driver's license and proof of insurance, a 2-month temp. tag can be supplied at an additional cost of $35. If the winning bidder is a Maryland resident, they must pay a 6% sales tax on the final bid, and a $100 title processing fee. Payment is to be made in CASH at pick-up. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The car must be picked up within 1 week of the end of the auction.
