Vehicle Detail
If you wanted to buy a Vega in 1975, you could get it in any color but Black. If you wanted a Black one, you had to buy a Cosworth – a $3,200.00 Vega with a $3,000.00 up-charge for the engine option. That is why they advertised the Cosworth as “One Vega for the Price of Two”. You are bidding on a pristine and “over-restored” 1975 Cosworth with 78,780 actual miles. This example is Unit #0776 (see picture of the dash plaque) of 2,061 Black Cosworths manufactured in 1975. Only a bit over 4,000 of the advertised miles has been added since its total cosmetic restoration in 2005 – 2006. My father bought this car new in 1978 from a dealer in Huntsville, Alabama. The vehicle had been sitting on his lot – unsold – for three years. Nobody wanted to pay $6,200.00 for a “modified Vega” when $6,700.00 could get you into an entry-level corvette. My father piloted the car for almost twenty (20) years and 73,000.00 miles always driving it hard and putting it away wet. During those years he made only two (2) major “non-stock” modifications to the car:The Bendix EFI system was removed and replaced with dual side-draft Webber carburetors. The work was done by Cosworth masters Hutton Motor Engineering in Clarksville, Tennessee. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
