The first thing my dad did since we were living in the vicinity of San Fransico, California, was he drove into the city with our 1971 Volvo 145s Wagon with a 4 speed, parked it on a hill...a SF HILL (that's a 45 degree angle I think) got out and told me to learn how to drive. All I could think about was how many years I would spend in jail for killing everyone behind me that day. But, my dad looked very confident, especially after buckling his three point seat belt (rare for cars in those days) and he said drop the clutch and step on the gas.
