High mileage, runs and drives but needs TLC. Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. This car is not Maryland State Inspected, therefore, it cannot be sold to a Maryland resident. As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. These are a popular choice for someone that wants a used hybrid car. They are still simple enough that a person with reasonable mechanical skills can work on / maintain them, and there is a wealth of information and support online for maintaining the hybrid system. These older Honda hybrids are much more simple in design than the Prius, because they basically took the regular civic, gave it a smaller engine, then sandwiched an electric motor between the engine and transmission. Gas mileage is not as good as it is in a more complicated hybrid like the Prius, but this car was still rated 39mpg City / 42mpg Hwy / 41mpg combined. Long-held fears about aging hybrids ($6k replacement batteries, etc.) have mostly been debunked. You can find replacement batteries with warranties for $1,200 – $2,200. With the proper research, equipment and precautions, you can rebuild your old battery yourself, or grid charge monthly to rebalance your existing battery. I am selling this car on behalf of my father because he does not use the internet. It is owned by his small, used car dealership, but it has kind of been my hobby for the past couple of months. We had never bought a used hybrid vehicle before, and I had wanted to get one of these so that I could learn more about them. I think that I have put about 700 - 900 miles on the car. I cleaned it up and did some routine maintenance. I wanted to take apart the hybrid battery and get a spare so that I could rebuild it myself, but I just do not have that kind of time. I had also hoped to get a friend to build me a grid charger, but he was not able to, and I don’t want to buy one off Ebay for $300 to use on a single car, so I’m just going to pass this one on. I did learn that I like these cars a lot. They are small, but smooth on the highway, and the gas mileage is phenomenal! This car literally sips gas. This 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid has 301,756 miles on the odometer. It has the typical wear and tear of a 301k mile car. There is a pile of service history documents so big that it fills the glovebox (pictured). I have leafed through this, but have not had time to examine each one. You are welcome to come check out the car and read through them all if you like. The 1.3L engine runs well and does not make any unusual noises. When we got the car I changed the oil and filter using Mobil Super 1000 oil, 0 – 20W. I also installed a brand new 12V battery. The transmission shifts through all the gears normally, but it will shutter mildly when you take off from the stop. It has not worsened since we got the car, and I did see a couple of service records with this problem listed when the car’s mileage was in the lower 200k area, so it has been going on for quite awhile. I have done city and highway driving in the car. The ride quality is nice, the steering is good, and the brakes work well. The check engine dash light is on, as well as the airbag light. The IMA light comes on sometimes. I had the codes checked and got a P1600 and P1433 - hybrid battery failure, P0135 – faulty O2 sensor, and P0521 – oil pressure sensor. The hybrid system does still work, as the dash gauges show Charge and Assist, and the battery gauge shows the battery going through its full range of charge / discharge during a trip. There have been a couple of occasions when those gauges stopped showing values, and I suspected the hybrid system had stopped working, but I turned the ignition off and back on, and that fixed it. When the weather started to get very cold, I noticed that when driving at night with the lights and heater on, if I pulled to a stop at an intersection, the dash light for the 12 volt battery would come on. It would then go off when I started driving again. I found out recently that one of the terminals on the 12V battery was loose, and tightened it. Not sure if that was the source of the problem, but I have not seen the light come back on. The exterior of the car looks like the exterior of a 301k mile car. There are occasional dings and scratches in the gold / tan paint. The hood has some dents and a tiny rust hole on it. Simply replacing it with one from the junkyard would be relatively easy and inexpensive. All of the exterior lights work. The interior of the car is a 301k mile car interior. The tan carpets and seats have been cleaned, but they are stained from heavy use. The dash and center console have been cleaned, but still have a few stains. There are driver and passenger airbags, the power windows work, the power locks work, the heater works, there is A/C but I can’t tell if it works or not because it is cold out. The radio works but needs to have the security code typed in since I changed the battery. This is a no reserve auction, so this car will go to the highest bidder. I have described the car as best as possible, but would recommend that you come have a look and take it for a test drive if you are going to bid. This is a 301k mile car, and it has the wear and tear of a 301k mile car. It needs work, it needs TLC. Don’t be the guy that buys the 301k mile car, then shows up and complains because it is not more like a 50k mile car. If you have been looking for one of these hybrids to play around with and drive, like I was, it could be the car for you. This car is less than 20 years old, and has not been MD State Inspected, therefore it can only be sold to a non-Maryland resident. If you are a resident Maryland with a Maryland driver’s license you cannot buy this car, so please do not bid on this auction. PLEASE READ: This car is not MD State Inspected. It cannot be sold to a Maryland resident. If you are a Maryland resident, do not bid on this auction. Payment is to be made in cash.
