As is stated above, this is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1995 BMW 318ti. These are fun little cars that you do not see that often anymore. The 318ti is the hatchback version of the 3-series BMW. These cars have the BMW 3-series qualities of being sleek and sporty, but are also very practical around-town vehicles. They are small, fun to drive, easy to park and good on gas. The rear-wheel drive adds more of a sports car touch too, as most hatchbacks are front-wheel drive. Most of these cars are getting high in mileage nowadays, and this one is no exception. This car has 289,000 miles on the odometer, but is still in reasonable condition for that amount of mileage, and runs and drives well. It is not in perfect condition, so please read the description fully, examine the pictures, and ask any questions you have. I am listing this on behalf of my dad, because he does not use the internet. This car is owned by his small, used car dealership. This car has not been Maryland State Inspected, and is less than 20 years old, so it can only be sold to a non-resident of Maryland. If you are a Maryland resident, please do not bid. The 1.8L, 4-cylinder engine on this BMW runs and accelerates very smoothly. It is economical, but peppy, and for its size it will surprise you if you put the gas pedal to the floor. It does not smoke. I have not noticed any fluid leaks, but there is oil staining and some oil droplets clinging to the bottom of the oil pan. The transmission shifts through all of its gears normally, with no slipping or hard shifts detected, and I don’t hear any “whirring” from the rear differential. I have been driving the car locally on a mixture of suburban roads and highways, and it drives very well on both. The brakes are strong, but there is a vibration in the steering under hard braking that may mean it is time for new rotors. The suspension also feels a bit too soft, and there is a mild “clunking” noise at the front right wheel when going over bumps, so I suspect that the car needs new shocks. With this kind of mileage, it may need other suspension components replaced too, such as ball joints and bushings. The interior is showing a level of wear that is expected for this amount of mileage. The dash, door panels and headliner are in good shape. The carpets are OK, but could use a clean-up. The leather seats are worn, with some cracking and a few tears, but they still give good support. The odd little trim piece here or there is missing, but nothing major. All of the electronics: windows, mirrors, sunroof, wipers, etc. appear to work. There is an aftermarket Alpine stereo / CD player that works fine. This car has dual airbags. The gauges on the dash all work and it does not overheat. The ABS light is on. Sometimes the airbag light comes on, then goes off. I have also noticed that the ignition switch is worn, so you sometimes have to jiggle the key to start the car. The main problem is that the heater does not work well. It blows air, but that air is not hot, and is only just warm enough to defog the windshield. The exterior of the car is in below average condition. I have only found one area of rust (pictured), but the paint on the roof and hood has a lot of cracking in it when you look up close, and there are a few small scratches here and there around the car. Underneath, the car looks solid. This is a no reserve auction, so this car will go to the highest bidder. I have described the car as best as possible, noting the problems that I have identified, but there may be others that I have not found. I believe that this BMW is in reasonable condition for an 18 year-old car with 289,000 miles, it is not in new condition. This car has wear and tear that is expected for that type of age and mileage. If you are looking for a car that is like new and has no problems, buy a new one. If you are a fan of these little BMWs, or are looking for a cheap, sporty hatchback that is different, and you don’t mind doing some work on it, this could be the car for you.
