Vehicle Detail

This bike is an original, matching numbers BMW, engine, frame and original headstock plate. It has been completely restored, from the ground up, engine, frame and swing arms were stripped, zinc primed and powder coated Granada red. The fenders and remaining sheet metal was media blasted and repaired, welded where needed, primed and BSAF paint was used. Pin stripping was done by Mark Weld by hand. All chrome parts on the bike were re-chromed, the chroming and Cad Plating was done by Niagara Plating and all of the aluminum was professionally polished by Barnes Polishing and Plating. Shocks were dismantled and re-built, two new shock cartridges were used and all new rubbers where needed. Swing arms received new bearings and seals and were properly packed and lubricated. The wheel hubs were media blasted and coated, splines checked for wear, (rear spline welded and re-cut), and new wheel bearings were properly shimmed, sealed and lubricated. The wheels were laced with new stainless spokes and installed onto professionally polished rims, trued with the proper offset. The front rim is a high-lip Akrot and the rear a low lip Weinmann. Heidenau tires, new rim straps and new tubes, 350-18” were mounted and balanced. The engine, Transmission and Final Drive were totally dismantled and evaluated. The cylinders were bored and honed to (1st over), 72.5mm and new pistons, rings and wrist pins were installed. The heads were dismantled, media blasted and coated. New valves, 4 new guides and two seats were installed. All new bearings and seals and gaskets were installed. The transmission and final drive were dismantled and evaluated. The cases media blasted and coated. All new seals and gaskets were used and bearings replaced where needed. All of the cases were clear coated with Eastwood Clear Coat Satin hi temp. sealer to prevent oxidation. Carburetors were totally dismantled, the bodies soda blasted, all internal parts evaluated and totally cleaned, and then fitted with new seals and gaskets from Bing. The bike received a new wiring harness and was completely re-wired from the terminal board to the tail light. New handle bars, seals, grommets, gaskets, switches and bulbs A pair of Hella bar-end signals were installed and wired to a new switch. A pair of Albert headlight mirrors and a chrome head light guard were installed. The speedometer was totally rebuilt by Foreign Speedometer with new bezel glass and gasket and set to 00000. All new cables including the speedometer cable, new battery, Denfeld Solo seat and a pair of tank rosettes were added along with new emblems. Finally a new set of header pipes, hangers and stock BMW mufflers were installed. Most of the hardware on the bike has been either nickel or Cad plated to keep the machine as original as possible. When in doubt as to the reliability of the existing fasteners Stainless Steel fittings were used. All fresh lubricants have been installed with 30 weight non-detergent break-in oil in the crank case. The bike was started and run but not run in. I did not put any miles on the bike. The engine and transmission were static tested on the bench and in the bike to prove that it went thru all the gears and there were no problems. If needed I can put the first 10 or 20 miles on the bike. Original and NOS parts were used where possible.
