Vehicle Detail
1956 Studebaker President. Was purchased from original owner in 1980 with 41,178 miles. It now has 42,500, so not many miles have been put on it in the last 33 years. Somewhere between 1985 and 1989 it received a paint job along with filling any rust spots with lead, most notably around the headlight bezels. The chrome was also redone at this time. It remained garaged until around 2004 when it had to be moved outdoors for a year. As a result, the paint started to blister and small pock marks started to appear on the chrome. Since 2005 it had been put back in the garage and has only recently been moved outdoors again. Some things that have been done during the last 33 years include; the gas tank was removed and professionally Renued, carb was rebuilt around eight years ago. As recently as 2008 it received a new exhaust system, front center steering arm replaced, replaced leaking freeze plugs, replaced fuel line from tank to left front wheel, transmission removed, overhauled and new torque converter installed, fan belts replaced, complete brake job with new wheel cylinders on all and new hoses installed on the front and new wheel bearings and seals were installed, all this was professionally done. More recently ,we replaced the timing cover seal, valve cover gaskets and plugs and wires. It starts and runs but could use a carb cleaning and adjustment. The brakes could also use an adjustment from being dormant. The car has never been in an accident as far as I know and all the major components are original. The interior is what one would expect for a car of this vintage but shows no signs of abuse. This car was featured on the cover of Turning Wheels magazine October 1989 Vol.21 no.10
