Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding. This is a NO RESERVE auction for a VW Cabrio. The car has high mileage: 179,698. It is showing the wear for its age and mileage, and could use some tlc, but would make a really good, fun little convertible for someone with a bit of work. The 2.0L engine runs pretty well, and is surprisingly strong. It has had a new starter motor recently installed. The 5-speed manual transmission makes this car fun to drive, and helps save on gas. It shifts through all the gears easily, without any grinding. The clutch feels good too. The car has driver and passenger airbags, and ABS brakes. Brakes are strong. The convertible top is in excellent condition, with no rips or tears on it. It is a manual top, so you don't have worry about electric motors failing, etc., and it is very light, so putting it up or down by hand is not difficult. This car also has a factory rollbar. The exterior paint looks good, but has defects that are to be expected for a car of this age. There are small scratches and dings here and there. At the spot on the body between the front wheel well and the door there is rust. This is present on both sides. I cannot see any other areas of rust on the car. The interior shows its age. The carpets and seats are slightly worn. The armrests are well worn and have cracks, and the steering wheel has a lot of wear on it and needs a cover. The previous owner installed a start button and mounted it next to the ignition switch. They did not replace the trim covers that go over the steering column and lower dash on the driver's side, but those pieces are in the trunk. The steering column cover will have to be modified to accommodate the start button. The heater works, and the car has A/C, but that will need to be charged. An aftermarket Panasonic stereo has been installed that has a CD player and an Aux port for an ipod. All lights and electrics work. I've been driving this car for 2 weeks now, on a mixture of highways and suburban roads. It runs pretty well, and has not given me any trouble. Things I have noticed are that the car has a slow coolant leak. About every 5 days the car loses about 1.5 cups of water. The leak is somewhere around the engine, because there is a faint smell of coolant vapor in the engine bay, but I have not located it. When it rains hard, there is a slow leak of rain water around the driver's window, so the weather stripping around there probably needs to be replaced. It feels like the car may need new front shocks or balljoints, or perhaps both. Occasionally the car exhibits a rough idle, but runs smoothly otherwise. This car is being sold on behalf of my father's small car dealership. It is an older car that has high mileage and needs TLC. This would be a good project for someone to buy cheap, fix up over winter, and have a fun, economical car for next summer. This car has not been Maryland State Inspected, therefore, it cannot be sold to a Maryland resident. If you are a Maryland Resident (i.e. - you have a Maryland Driver's license) you cannot buy this car, so please do not bid on this auction. This car is sold “as is,” with no warranty.
