Vehicle Detail

For Sale is my 1995 Volvo 960 with 161,216 miles. This car has a solid body with great seats in it but currently does not run. I think this Volvo has some life left in it for someone who is patient to diagnose it. But if it does not sell, I will reluctantly send it to the junk yard. Save this car from scrap! It's got excellent seats, relatively new tires, and used to run wonderfully when I drove it daily. The features of this car include: Leather seats Power front seats (see known defects list concerning passenger seat occasional jamming) Heated front seats Adjustable lumbar support on front seatsWinter/Sport/Economy mode transmission choicesLocking rear differential in Winter modeCruise controlMoonroofTrunk with a long load rear pass throughRear seat arm rest with storageFront seat arm rest with storage Fog lightsAutomatic windowsTilt steering wheelPower seatsMap lightsAir conditioning (does not hold a charge)Security alarmI have service records from 1995 onward. I also have the original window sticker, 2 original keys with security alarm key fobs, 2 owner's manuals, and various brochures received when the car was purchased by my grandparents in 1995. All of this documentation is included with the car. The known defects are: Car does not run: Experienced loss of power on 6/27/13 and again on 7/10/13. See details below. There is a sizeable scratch/dent in the hood (see photos)A/C system does not hold a charge (the heating system works great though) Crack in the cover where the driver's side seat controls are (see photos) Passenger seat adjustment forward and back sometimes jams (the back tilt adjust does work)Radio antenna is stuck in the up position 2 of the speakers are blown, but can be adjusted with fader and tone so that radio can still be heard through the other speakersLeather is pulling away from the window sills, especially on front doors (see photos)Driver's seat has a 1 inch tear in the leather (see photos) There are several scratches in the paint and places where the clear coat has peeled off. (larger areas shown on photos) There is no metal showing. There is also some tree sap on the paint on the trunk area.I've been told that the front lower control arm compliance bushings show wear and to monitor them. Description of "Loss of Power" mentioned above: On 6/27/13 the car failed to accelerate. This was followed immediately by loss of power to the radio, climate control fan, and power steering all simultaneously. At that time every dashboard warning light came on, all at the same time. (The way the warning lights came on reminded me of how the car behaves when you first turn the key, but in this case the motor itself was still running.) I pulled over, turned off the car, and waited 5 minutes. It cranked back up with only the check engine light showing but everything seemed to function normally (i.e. radio was fine, power steering fine, climate control fan fine, etc). I drove home and drove it to the mechanics the next day. They pulled codes 113 and 115 and cleared the check engine light but weren't sure what to do next. They sent me for a second opinion. The second mechanic inspected the wiring harness, cleaned the battery terminals, and replaced a single relay to an updated one. The car drove great for another 230 miles until 7/10/13 when it repeated the same behavior. However, this time when I waited and cranked the car again, it repeated the behavior after half a mile. I had the car towed to the mechanic. After having the car towed, it was not diagnosed further. The car currently cranks but does not turn over or run. I am selling the car because my parents happened to be visiting the very next day and assisted me in buying a new car. Some comments: This car is a "one family" car. It was in NC in the hands of my grandparents from May 1995 until May 2010 and kept in a garage, then was in the hands of my father in VA from May 2010 to August 2010 when it was then turned over to me. It's been in NY since August 2010. I've thoroughly enjoyed driving it and love all the plush features. The interior still has a ton of life left in it and the body has no rust on it that I know of. Some recent maintenance: 131,759 miles: rear brake pads 131,955 miles: new fuel rail installed (part of fuel injection system) 144,253 miles: front brake pads & 4 new tires (Toyo Extensa A/S 205/55R16 91H) 156,351 miles: timing belt kit (timing belt, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, etc) and water pump159,962 miles: most recent oil and filter change If you have any questions, just ask. You may contact me through ebay, or call me at (845) 419-0234 (no text). The car is being sold "as is" with no warranty. I have attempted to describe all known defects (hence this long description) but you are encouraged to view the car personally before bidding. I am not a mechanic so my descriptions are based on my own observations and not a guarantee of condition. If you purchase this car, you will need to make arrangements to tow it away. It is easily accessible from NY thruway I-87 at Exit 18.
