1976 BMW 2002 NO RESERVE AUCTION NO RESERVE THIS CAR WILL SELL TO THE HIGH BIDDER!!!! LAST YEAR FOR THE 2002 CALIFORNIA CAR IT'S WHOLE LIFE UNTIL I BROUGHT IT TO CONNECTICUT ALWAYS GARAGED IN CONNECTICUT, NEVER IN SALT OR SNOW. USED LESS THAN 500 MILES SUPER SOLID RUST FREE CAR. SHOCK TOWERS, PEDAL BOX, FLOORS, TRUNK ALL SUPER SOLID CALIFORNIA TITLE IN MY NAME. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN LOS ANGELES OCTOBER 2004 MECHANICALLY VERY GOOD. ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, DRIVE LINE EXCELLENT SMOG PUMP, AIR INJECTION EXHAUST MANIFOLD ALL STILL ON THE CAR. CONVERTED TO ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP THIS YEAR. STARTS INSTANTLY, GEARS AND SYNCROS GOOD. FUN TO DRIVE FRONT END AND BRAKES REDONE IN 2005 WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO CONNECTICUT SPEEDOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, TEMP GAUGE, WIPERS ALL WORK. RADIO WORKS AM-FM. WARNING LIGHTS FOR SEAT BELTS, EGR AND REACTOR SERVICE WORK EVEN THE OBNOXIOUS SEAT BELT WARNING BUZZER WORKS. ODOMETER SHOWS 97K MILES I THINK IT'S MORE. MINOR CRACKS IN DASH, LENSES HAVE SOME HEAT DAMAGE FROM THE SUN IF YOU WANT TO BRING IT BACK TO CALIFORNIA, CHECK FOR FEES, IT SHOULD BE ON THE INOP LIST. I HAVE STORED THIS CAR ALMOST 9 YEARS WAITING FOR THE CHANCE TO EITHER RESTORE IT OR TURN IT INTO A RACE CAR.I OWNED TWO OF THESE 2002'S BACK IN THE EARLY 1980'S AND THEY ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE CARS.UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, I DON'T SEE THE CHANCE TO DO THIS CAR ANYTIME SOON. AT ALMOST $100 A MONTH TO STORE IT, IT NEEDS TO GO. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE PROBABLY SPENT ALMOST $8,000 IN STORAGE ALONE. LOOK PAST THE UGLY YELLOW PAINT AND YOU WILL SEE ONE OF THE MOST SOLID BMWS AROUND. YOU CAN'T BUY THE REPLACEMENT METAL FOR A RUSTY NEW ENGLAND CAR FOR WHAT THIS MIGHT SELL FOR. CAR WAS ORIGINALLY ANTHRACITE (DARK GRAY) METALLIC. REPAINTED MANY YEARS AGO IN YELLOW. NEVER ANY RUST REPAIR. DOES SHOW SOME BODY REPAIR RIGHT FRONT, VERY MINOR.RUNS GREAT, SHIFTS GREAT. NO SHAKES OR FUNNY NOISES. OTHER THAN A MISSING TRUNK SEAL YOU COULD DRIVE THIS HOME. FUMES FROM THE EXHAUST ENTER THE CAR FROM THE MISSING TRUNK SEAL. THIS CAR WOULD LOOK BETTER WITH JUST SOME WASHING AND A WAX, BUT I DON'T HAVE THE TIME. THIS IS JUST HOW I PULLED IT OUT OF THE GARAGE. NOT EVEN WASHED. PLEASE LOOK OVER THE PHOTOS AND ASK QUESTIONS. So everyone is on the same page, I'll post some of the answers I have found for interested parties...... Yes it really does run great. Yes it really is a solid California car. It is not a patched up rust bucket like so many of these are...... Mileage I now believe the mileage to be 198K. I found the original service book with 84,459 noted March 2, 1983. Book goes with the car. Does not look or drive like 198K, Drives excellent...... Original engine block, Matching number on the block. Has an E12 cylinder head that I believe to be original.No smoke or noises. Was probably rebuilt at some point...... I drove the car today (Saturday) and went about 30 miles. Car ran great, exhaust fumes made me dizzy. I think if we tape up the trunk to seal it up without the weatherstrip that will solve the exhaust fume issues. With that done the car can be driven anywhere. Runs about 3800 rpm in 4th at 70mph...... All lights work. Left front turn signal lens broken, bulb still works. Horn works, headlights work high and low beams. Tach works. Heater and defrost controls work. Hot air up and down. Heater fan does not work. Don't know what it is...... Tires are mismatched brands. All have decent tread and look fine to drive home on...... Clutch operates smooth, no chatter. Transmission is fine. No problems...... Mechanical fuel pump is still on the engine. Block off plate if you want to take it off is available from BMW or Ireland Engineering...... Original Solex carburetor is still on the car. It is not converted to a Weber, it runs fine......No foglights, never had foglights. has the knob on the dash that's it...no switch, no foglights, that's how they did it. they give you a blank knob.....Yes if you want to use it now you can polish up the paint, touch it up, maybe paint the wheels silver and have a presentable car. I don't have time to do it......Trunk seal is available for under $30.00 on ebay or rockauto..... Some soap and water inside and you can use it as is......
