Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1978 Ford Bronco. This is the first year of the full size Broncos. I am selling it because it is time to move on. I start it and run it around the neighborhood regularly, but other than that it just sits. I purchased the Bronco from Ebay about 3 years ago from a gentleman in Palmdale, CA where it spent most of its life. The guy in Palmdale did most of the cosmetic work. It was painted inside and out with Lamborghini silver. All new carpet was installed. It does not appear to have any visible rust. He had new heads put on the 400cid engine. I paid $7500 for the Bronco. The Bronco was delivered to me with minor issues and 135,000 on the odometer. It did not have heat or windshield wipers. Apparently neither item was needed in Palmdale, CA. I installed wipers and a new heater core. Both work as expected. The Bronco ran perfect, but didn’t have enough “get up and go.”. It had a 400cid engine with a 2 barrel carb, single stock exhaust, and stock gears trying to turn the 35” Remington tires. I have a retail store 5 miles away from where I used to live, so, I vinyl lettered my business name on the Bronco and drove it to and from work. The letters should peel right off. After a couple of months it was time to beef things up. I took the Bronco to MD Performance Center in Frederick, MD and asked George to wave his magic wand over it. -New Edelbrock 4bbl carb and intake, -New Crane cam, MSD 6A, -New Hooker ceramic coated headers, -New Flowmasters and duel exhaust, -New 4:11 gears front and back, -New posi unit installed in the rear, -1 ½” of lift added in the rear of the already lifted truck to level it out. George of MD Performance warned me that there was 135,000 miles on the lower end of the 400cid motor and it may need some future attention. After the above work was completed, it was being driven the 40 miles from MD performance to where I lived and we spun 2 bearings in the lower end. I was more than bummed out. The Bronco was towed back to MD Performance and damage was assessed. I said “F**K it…Make everything new!” -New block, -New hyperkinetic pistons -New crankshaft -C6 transmission and transfer case were freshened up. Shifts smooth and runs perfect. Long story short, everything on and in the engine is new. There does not appear to be any major leaks . For some reason, the speedometer quit working. There is approximately 600 miles on the new engine. I have over $15,000 in receipts from MD Performance and most of the original owner’s receipts as well. In my opinion, the only thing that looks bad cosmetically from the outside is the trim was painted black and is starting to flake off. I just don’t think the trim was painted correctly. All the glass is good and the rear power window works. The 4WD shift knob is a Q-ball that a friend made for me. There is no radio installed. I moved to a farm 40 miles away from my shop and take the train to and from work so the Bronco just sits. Buyer is responsible for shipping. Sold “AS IS” WITH NO WARRANTY.
