Vehicle Detail
For those of you who may not be familiar with Intermeccanica, as opposed to the other companies who make Porsche replicas, lets just state it as simply as possible: INTERMECCANICA BUILDS THE BEST PORCHSE REPLICAS! The quality of their cars, which are only sold as complete cars, is second to none! They use the best materials, take their time, and truly are a throwback to the "coach built" cars of yesteryear. And should you ever need assistance from the company for anything - even stupid questions - the owner/builder, Roger, is simply a phone call away (even for their cars that sell on the second hand market - you do not have to be the original owner for Roger, or one of his people, to answer any of your questions). The best company up front, and the best follow on company,,,,,,,, that is Intermeccanica. They are proud of their cars, and justifiably so! THIS CAR: This particular car was built in 2001 for a man in New York state (and comes with original U.S. Customs paperwork). The original owner then sold it to a man in Florida, and I bought it from him in 2011. The original U.S. Customs Department paperwork comes with the car, as does the original Intermecannica Invoice, which provides the following information: ENGINE: 1600cc Super 90hp engine, 40mm weber carbs.TRANSMISSION: 4 speed all synchro.BRAKING: Dual circuit brakingSUSPENSION: Independent front suspension, oleopneumatic shocks, adjustable heightCHASSIS: Front crush zone, bumper guards on collapsible supportsWHEELS: Chromed 15" x 5.5" steel wheels (some surface rust in some crevices)TIRES: I purchased this set of Coker 185/70R15s, wide white walls, in March 2012. They come with Coker's "Extended Tire Protection" plan. PAINT: Glasurit high lustre Forest Green metallic paint, with clear coag. INTERIOR: Full leather interior (note the special storage pockets on the inside of each door).DASH/INSTRUMENTS: Original Porsche 356 style dash with full Porsche 356 replica VDO instruments.CARPETING: Original square weave carpeting.HVAC: Air conditioning, which is CFC free; plus High Efficiency heater/defroster (unlike original 356s)!!!!!STEERING WHEEL: Nardi wood wheelSEATS: Reproduction Porsche 356 seats with headrests, and restraint system of three point belts with reels.RADIO: AM/FM stereo with CD changer.CONVERTIBLE TOP: Stayfast cloth top with matching top coverTONNEAU: Brand new - never even been on the car. I purchashed it from "Auto's International" in California (these are the people who supply the leather goods to Intermeccanica). The snaps (which are included) need to be mounted onto the tonneau - I haven't yet taken it to my local upholsterer to do so. GLASS: Tinted safety glass.LOCKING: Safety hood and door locksgas lifts on hood and deckRight hand matching mirrorGrab handleDual horns APPEARANCE: This car is basically in excellent condition. The color combination has to be the best - the DARK green exterior, set off by the wide whitewalls, and with the tan leather interior and its square weave carpeting, is really eye-catching! I can't imagine a better color combination. DRIVEABILITY: The car runs out beautifully. The engine pulls, revs climb, and the gear shift is precise. The car has been maintained by my mechanics - both named Dave! - one of whom is an old VW racer, and he has the car tuned perfectly. ISSUES: (1) In some of the crevices on the chrome wheels there is a little rust bubbling. (2) There are some spots on some of the whitewalls that need that white whitewall liquid applied, which I ran out of. (3) The car has 14,098 miles on it, as such it is going to have small chips, brusies, whatever other cars with 14,000+ miles on it has. (4) Tonneau cover needs snaps applied. Other than these four minor things, I can't really think of anything else. WHAT ARE YOU GETTING: So, what is it you are buying? Basically, a MODERN, and improved upon, 1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D. You will be getting a BEAUTIFUL car, that drives WONDERFULLY and should give you a ton of carefree (and FUN) driving miles. It has the look, and feel, or an original, but has a sportier edge and much easier maintenance (any VW mechanic can work on these cars, with parts and labor costing a LOT LESS than for an original Porsche. Plus, should anything happen the builder is just a phone call away). It handles better than an original (as I understand it, Intermeccanica has moved the engine forward about 3", and that gives the car a better front to back weight ratio, and definitely improves the handling). I recently sold my real 1965 356 and can state that this car does handle better than that one! In addition, to its beautiful looks and great driveability, it does not cost the $150,000 or so that an original one would cost you, has a/c and would you believe a heater/defroster that actually provides both heat and defrost!!! Just put the top down (I had it up once, and that was about a year ago when the picture of the top being up was taken) and go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, (By the way, I am in Northeast Pennsylvania and it gets cold here,,,,,,,, in the fall/early winter I drive around with the top down, the side windows up, and the heater on - it doesn't get much better than that)! Just don't forget to stop for gas once in a while! So, if you have any questions, please email me. If you would prefer to talk about the car, I can provide my phone number.
