Vehicle Detail
1957 Thunderbird I have owned this car for about three years. I bought it from a dealer in Dallas. He had it as a consignment car. I do not know a lot of its history. These are my impressions of the car. It was restored maybe 10-15 years ago, probably for local shows and has been driven little since then and stored in a garage. The color was changed from a green to the Starmist blue of today and vinyl added to the fiberglass top. The mileage is 71,394 and is probably the true number because I doubt it has been driven much since the redo. The car seems to be original. I have found no rust and the paint job was fine quality when done with only one small run and one paint drop. It still shines like new with a few small chips around the doors, hood, etc. All weather stripping still looks new. The chrome is in very good, shiny condition. Door fit is only average. It has the expensive wire wheels, power steering, power brakes, vintage AC that works, the 312 Y-block engine, Ford-o-matic transmission, fender skirts, and air shocks in back. It does not have the fold down top, power seat or power windows and the radio is 80s vintage. I wanted a car in good condition but a reliable driver, not necessarily a show car. So this is what I have done since I bought the car. Before the car left Dallas, I had it undercoated and a couple of rusty body struts replaced. I found a mechanic locally who specialized in old cars and he did a lot of work for me. I had the brakes totally redone, stabilizer bars added, power brakes added, electronic ignition and coil, Edelbrock four barrel carburetor to replace an unreliable Demon, added a tonneau cover, replaced the steering wheel with a smaller version (original comes with car), electric wiper motor, new turn signal switch, replaced passenger window (have one for driver side), four new Coker American wide whitewalls, ran exhaust out the bumper, new floor mats, fixed emergency brakes, new seat belts, new fuel pump, new gas tank sender and probably a couple of things that I have forgotten. I have the receipts. I have seen the car on the rack many times and the underneath condition is clean and original looking. What it needs is a short list. The tachometer and clock do not work. The new horn button came off , I put it back on and now the horn does not work. A simple fix. The new wiper motor came with a new switch but I bought the extender so I could use the old dash button. The shaft is not lining up properly with the switch now. Easy fix. The AC works fine but I haven’t put Freon in this summer. Easy fix. There is no oil leak but there is a transmission fluid drip from the shifter shaft. I have a complete set of transmission gaskets that go with the car. My old mechanic retired and the new one just had a hip replaced so I cannot get the simple stuff done right now. The engine starts with just a touch on the first try. It runs strong and the transmission shifts smoothly. I drive it to work some days and have driven it 60 to 120 highway miles round trip a number of times but I do not take it on a freeway. The usual stuff applies. It is sold AS Is Where Is, sale is final, shipping is up to you to arrange. Contact me via email if you want to see it in person or have questions. I will expect $500 within 48 hours of the end of the auction and the remainder before the car leaves. I have a clear title.
