Vehicle Detail
1956 Desoto Fireflite Pacesetter Very Rare! This is a very rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history. This is a very nice driver quality car in mostly original condition. There is even plastic over the seats to preserve the original fabric and vinyl. Although there are some "old car" issues that will need be addressed, this is a great addition to any collection. It can be driven as it is or brought up to show quality very easily. The description below is accurate and honest, so bid with confidence that there will be no secrets. Mechanical - The engine and drivetrain is in great condition. The engine runs beautifully and the transmission shifts great. Today it idled outside in the Florida heat for about 30 minutes and it runs COLD! It uses a push-button style Powerflite transmission that is very easy to operate. The exhaust is surprisingly quiet for an older car. It has only a few tiny transmission fluid leaks and no oil leaks. The power steering operates as designed with no hard spots and is tight when turning. The power brakes work well but the pedal catches midway down so they may need to be bled for better braking. The tires a in good condition but are older with good tread. It starts right up the first time. Interior - The interior looks to be original. The prior owner had a clear plastic seat covering installed to protect the vinyl and twine. It can be removed easily if you would rather not have it. The seats have no noticeable damage of any kind. The door panels are very nice as well. There are no cracks in the dashboard and all the knobs and switches are in very nice condition. The glove compartment is clean as well. The windows are in very nice condition with no cracks or chips. The chrome will need to be polished up but is not peeling or pitted. Electrical - All of the electrics seem to be working except for the passenger's side rear window, It will not go up or down. All of the other windows work as designed. The passenger's side rear window switch has a loose chrome insert that snaps in. All of the gauges are working as designed with good glass and no hazing. All of the exterior lights are working including the reverse lights. Although it starts up right away, I would recommend replacing the main battery because it shows signs of slowing down. The wiring is all intact without any shorts or fraying. Roof - The convertible top will need to be replaced. The rear window is yellowed and has separated from the rest of the roof. The roof frame is in perfect condition and still has a very nice white paint coating. The chrome lock at the front of the roof is working as designed. The motors come on when using the dash mounted roof switch but may need hydraulic fluid. The roof needed assistance to go up and down. Chrome - The exterior chrome is driver quality and can be easily polished up to a nice shine. It is not show quality but looks nice enough. No chrome is missing from the car and no chrome is coming apart. Body - It looks like the paint was redone some years back but shows nicely. It is not perfect and has some chips here and there. There is some pitting under the right fender mirror. The paint is a nice applications. There are not any fisheyes or orange peel. It was a great paint job at the time. There is some very minor spots on the rocker panels that could use a respray. There are no bubbles or rust holes anywhere on the body. The frame was painted white at some point and the paint is peeling in many spots. There are some areas with some minor surface rust but nothing through and no holes or bubbling.
