Vehicle Detail
I bought this pickup 15 years ago, intending to use it on the farm. Instead I knocked the dents out, sprayed it with enamel, and started driving it on summer road trips. It has been stored inside except for those trips. It has been from Canada to Mexico, the east and west coasts, covered the Oregon Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, Route 66 from Chicago to L.A., the Natchez Trace, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a lot of places in between. The engine is a newer tilt-valve Black Diamond 240 with full flow oiling. The last trip, 2 years ago, it covered 4,000 miles without using a quart of oil. But it's 3/4 ton with stiff springs, a 4wd front end, and doesn't get great gas mileage (12.7 mpg). I've found a 1/2 ton that's easier to take on trips, so it's time to let this one go. It isn't a show truck. It's a 20-footer with a few runs and orange peel from a novice painter. And from it's travels it has some rock chips and dings as well. But it is pretty straight and it's all there. The glass is all good and everything works, although the fuel gauge is a little "iffy". The odometer reading of 46940 is the mileage since it was repainted and taken on the road trips. I have no idea what the actual miles are, but it was well-used when I bought it. Even the brass fire extinguisher goes with it. And a spare wheel with a tire that needs replacing. I found one place above the windshield that has a small rust bubble, and have included a picture. The seat is sound, but has some wear on the front edge, driver's side. The Herculiner coating in the box could use another coat. I removed the tailgate chains, but I do have them, and they go with the truck. Mechanically it's in good shape for a 57 year-old truck. I think the trunion bearings in the front axle need to be adjusted or replaced, but it is a Dana 44 closed-knuckle axle, and parts are still available. I rewired and converted it to 12-volt, and installed a 12-volt IH windshield wiper motor. It has a Pertronix ignition, which can be easily returned to points and condenser, but has worked flawlessly. It comes with the original side-ring wheels with 16 inch bias ply tires, but I do have a set of single-piece drop-center wheels I had made for it, with radials that I'd sell separately if the buyer is interested. On Jul-11-13 at 05:36:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been asked a few questions about the axle ratios and speeds. The axles are 4.10 or 4.11. I regularly drove it at 55 - 57 mph with the one-piece wheels, radial tires with highway tread.
