Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 You are getting both cars (2) they come as a package deal. In the photos you can see both cars sitting side-by-side. The 1979 has been started and driven and now needs a fuel pump, it also has salvage Texas title. These unique collector sports cars have removable roofs and mid engine drive trains. The 1979 is a 5 speed, odometer reads 36,159. The 79 has the nicer paint and body with no signs of rust, except at front lower corner of each door. Hard to see small spots. The Fiat is a 1976 I have not tried to start but am confident that it will run, this one has a clear Texas title and is a 4 speed, also the 1976 is the one with rust over the wheel on the passengers side. A little history about the development of this Very Collectable Vehicle. I am providing a little history the Fiat X1/9 and how it came about. These vehicles are both restoreable. The Fiat X1/9 was produced from 1972-1988 it is considered a mid-engine sports car designed by Marcello Gandini of Bertone, well known for designing Lambroghini. The Mechanical components of the Fiat 128 were used to establish a rolling chassis. The Fiat 128 was a front wheel drive vehicle and the Fiat X1/9 was a mid-engine vehicle meaning the entire drive train was relocated. Once the chassie, drivetrain, and suspension were in place, Gandini began creating a two-seater design. The results featured many sharp-edges, (similar in ways to some of the prior Bertone-designed vehicles) pop-headlights, removeable roof panel that can be stored under hood of the car. The Fiat X1/9 mid-engined two-seater with targa top that can be stored in the front luggage compartment. It was originally designed as a sports car for the masses. It was produced from 1974 to 1988. The X1/9 came stock with a single overhead cam 1290 cc. engine that was mounted transversely ahead of the rear axle line and a four speed transmission until 1978. There were 140,519 X1/9s produced by Fiat in this time. This was not enough for Fiat so Bertone took over in 1982. The X1/9's after 1978 came with a 1489 cc. engine and a five speed transmission. X1/9's have four wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts. The brakes are disc, front and back. It has rack and pinon steering. There are no power brakes or power steering and all the instrumentation is analog, of course. The X1/9 has some of the same parts as the Ferrari 308. It is easy to work on.
