UPDATED DESCRIPTION: PLEASE SEE ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BELOW, AS WELL AS VIDEO AT http://youtu.be/362x3o9t810 The owner of this 1972 FJ40 died of cancer last year. He was an extreme perfectionist, some would even say psychotic, when it came to this vehicle. It is no exaggeration to say it was his one true love and best friend. This is a turn-key Land Cruiser that has been immaculately cared for and worked on meticulously, particularly mechanically. Most if not all of its miles have been driven in California, and in the Mojave desert for most of its long trips. A truly rare find, with the hope of selling this to someone who will value and use it well. The in-line 6 cylinder engine, 3 speed manual transmission, and transfer case are all stock. It has nearly 85,500 original miles. The white paint is the original color, and the exterior was painted a second time several years ago. The only sign of rot is just below the rear doors (as shown in picture), otherwise in amazing condition. Runs great, no leaks or drips of any kind - in awesome mechanical condition. Fluids, belts, and hoses has been routinely changed and closely monitored. Has been driven around town once a month for the past year for maintenance. A lot of custom work has been done, the following which is known: Power Steering (completely original custom work) Auburn posi rear end (axles have original 4.10 gear ratio) Center force clutch (no more than 5k since installed) Shifter has been changed from steering column directly to transfer case in floor Lift kit (not sure about type of springs) 31" rims - aluminum that have been chromed Warn hubs Roll bar Tow bar Confer roof rack Headliner Driver's seat with sliding adjustment C/B, stereo, speakers, altimeter, clinometer In-cab sleeping compartment with weatherproof canvas cover (especially handy for long trips into wilderness territories) Orange painted underbody (nostalgic safety feature from an old die-hard desert rat) The tires are in good shape - not new, but still with plenty of life left in them. I'm sure there are other details that I am not mentioning. I'll try to field any questions as best as I can. In addition to everything mentioned above, vehicle comes with original rear seats, a box of parts (belts, hoses, plugs, etc.), ladder jack, car jack, and other miscellaneous items. You are encouraged to look at the vehicle in person or send someone to do it for you. You will not be disappointed! Besides the little bit of rot above the rear bumper, there is some tape on top of the brake pedal, as well as small nicks or bits of rust in places. Other than this there are no chips in the windshield or glass, cracks, dings, dents, or other knows defects. Vehicle is sold as-is without any warranty or future obligation for maintenance or repairs of any kind. I am willing to work with the buyer on finding a shipping broker if requested to do so. Non-refundable deposit of $500 through paypal required immediately after auction ends. Remaining payment due within 7 days of auction closing via cash, cashiers check, or bank wire transfer. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:One potential buyer asked me several good questions that I greatly appreciated and I think would assist the sale of the vehicle. First, there is NO RESERVE for this vehicle. The $8,500 is the starting price and each bid after will be accepted. Second, at his request a link for a video of the vehicle starting up and running was linked to this auction. I also think it is helpful to post some of his questions and my responses: What is the vehicle's cruising speed (highway/freeway)? A person who made many trips in this vehicle said that they usually cruised at 60 to 65mph, and would occasionally travel as fast as 70mph. What is the large bracket on the spare tire? This securely holds up to a five gallon propane tank. Does the heater work? Yes. Does the vehicle easily shift into 4WD? Yes. Where is the stereo? The Jensen stereo is above the rear view mirror, in front of the CB. You can see the back of one of the speakers in the photo that shows the custom bed. Can you provide a picture under the carpet in the rear bed to show that there is no rot there? No I cannot because the edge of the carpet has been fastened down with flashing around the entire rear cargo area, and would be a major pain to take off. The poor quality of the video will likely not ease the skeptics mind about potential rot under the bed. You will have to trust the seller that the only rot on the vehicle is above the rear bumper (clearly shown in a photo and the video) or send someone to inspect firsthand. Does this vehicle need to be smogged? No. What is the piece of tape or something to the right of the steering column? It is velcro. The owner put velcro on several places in the cabin to hold down flashlights, canteens, instrumentation, survival tools, etc, during off-road travel. What is the extra set of lights above the rear doors? These are extra taillights for safety when off-roading with multiple vehicles. The bulb on the left side needs to be replaced. Another interested party asked if this vehicle has a bikini or soft top? No, it is an original hardtop that has not been altered and does not come with any possibility of easy removal. I forgot to mention in the original ad the second battery compartment under the hood, again for security in wilderness travel. Finally, I want to ad that most of the description of the vehicle comes from the mechanic who provided most of the custom work and was a friend and companion on many trips. He said himself that if he would buy any FJ40 it would be this one because of the extreme attention and meticulous care the owner gave to this vehicle. Please let me know if you have any further questions. On Jul-06-13 at 14:57:22 PDT, seller added the following information: SECOND UPDATE: The mechanic who did nearly all of the work on this vehicle, whose shop is just a couple miles away from where the FJ40 is currently parked, said he is willing to talk with the buyer about the history of the vehicle as well as answer any other questions he/she might have. An appointment would need to be set up before coming to purchase and pick up the vehicle in order to guarantee that the mechanic would be available.
