Vehicle Detail
I bought this 55’ Chevy in 1989 from a friend who owned a body shop. He had just finished painting it. I replaced the original 265 engine with a late model 350, .030 over, 4 bolt main engine that I did a complete rebuild on myself (I am a master ASE mechanic). I plasti-gauged the bearings upon assembly and it was perfect. The heads are late model 300 horse with mild porting on the exhaust side, also rebuilt. It has a Cam Dynamics .454 lift, 272 duration cam, Edelbrock Performer intake and a Holley 4175 650 spread bore carb. I forgot what compression ratio pistons I put in but, I think they are stock. I had the transmission gone through and a shift kit installed. The rear end is a 336 posi. Upon completion of my upgrades, I entered it in a few car shows and actually placed 5th in a big one. In January 1990, the car was also written up in the local paper, The Arkansas Democrat”, in a section called “Classic Tales”. Then, in 1993, I slid into a curb, hitting it with the right front, because I went around a corner too fast. The curb was about one foot tall. The wrecker, while winching it onto a flatbed, damaged the rocker panels below the doors. I stripped most of the interior and did all the mechanical repairs including the following: · All 4 new springs · New shocks · Converted to disk brakes with new brake cylinders, calipers, rubber lines, drums, rotors, parking brake cable, shoes, hold downs, springs, pads, and master cylinder. · All suspension components replaced with Performance Suspension Technology parts including all ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm, control arm bushings, sway bars and sway bar bushings. · New tires and wheels. · New u joints. · New, powder coated, rear end housing with new bearings. · Aligned front end. The car then sat in my garage for 20 years. I didn’t have the money to finish the way I wanted it. Recently, I got it running again. I had to put a new fuel pump and accelerator pump in it. I’m pretty sure the power valve is gone too but, it starts, runs and drives pretty well. It will still, easily, roast the tires. The brake seals have swelled and braking is very poor. It will probably need new wheel cylinders, calipers and master cylinder, even though they are new. There seems to be very little rust on this car. One area it does have rust is the rear of the trunk floor and there is a patch on the drivers floorboard. The interior is fair (I accidently tore the rear seat during storage). There is a new, black, carpet. I have a new windshield, and other parts I will include with the purchase. I have all the parts that came off the car. The doors do not line up and latch easily as they did before the curb.
