Vehicle Detail

Selling my wife's car because we just bought a new one. NO RESERVE! 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 92,851 miles on odometer! Clear Maryland Title 2.7L V6, Automatic Transmission, selectable 4-wheel drive Very reliable, very practical, good all-around vehicle. Has 3rd row seat and can carry up to 7 people! ***Please read the description and the pick-up / payment instructions fully before bidding.*** As stated above, this is a 2002 Suzuki XL-7. It is the long-wheelbase version of the Vitara. This has been my wife's car for almost a year now. It has been a great vehicle, and has never given us any trouble. The only reason we are selling it is because we bought a brand new car 2 weeks ago, and now this one is just sitting in the driveway collecting dust. We bought this Suzuki on June 20, 2012. It had been MD State Inspected on May 25, 2012. When we bought this car it had 72,340 miles on the odometer, it now has 92,851. So in just over 10 months we put over 20,000 miles on it! My wife does a lot of driving for her work. She typically has to make an 80-mile round trip 2 – 3 times a week, plus other work-related trips around Baltimore County, City, and Howard County. We used this vehicle to ferry people back and forth between Baltimore, Washington, and Annapolis for our wedding. We have taken it on road trips to Annapolis, the Eastern Shore, Washington DC, central Pennsylvania, etc. It has been driven in the city traffic and on country highways, in stifling heat and humidity, wind, rain and snow. It has never given us any trouble or left my wife stranded anywhere. The Suzuki runs on regular gasoline. We have gotten an oil and filter change every 3,000 miles. The next oil change is due at either 94,315 miles or on July 25. A new power steering belt and new front brake pads were installed just prior to our purchase. Over winter we had the rear brakes taken apart, the drums resurfaced, and new pads installed. I also replaced the battery a few months back with a Duralast Gold car battery. It passed the MD State Vehicle Emissions test on September 26, 2012. This Suzuki has the 2.7L V6 engine, so it is not under-powered like the 4-cylinder versions of the grand vitara. We haven't had any problems with it leaking or burning oil, and have kept it maintained pretty well. It does not smoke. There is a very very small amount of valve noise that is only noticable if you are under the hood when it's running, but I've driven quite a few Vitaras and Chevy Trackers with this engine, and they all seem a little noisey, so it may just be how they were built? The automatic transmission shifts normally, is quiet and all gears work fine. There is a transfer case that allows you to select between 2wd, 4wd High and 4wd Low. The 4wd works well, as we did have a little bit of snow in Baltimore County this year, but also, we went out to Frostburg in January and had to drive through at least 6” of snow for a couple of miles down a back-country road to get to a lodge. The Suzuki Vitara, XL-7 and the Chevy Tracker are all basically the same vehicle, so getting parts is pretty easy at your local parts store, or even cheaper online. This is an extremely practical vehicle. Being the long-wheelbase version, this Suzuki feels very stable on the highway. It does not have that “tippy” feeling that the short-wheelbase Vitara and Tracker have, but is still small enough to be easily manuvered in the city. It has the 3rd row seat, and so it can seat up to 7 people legally. We have taken a trip with 6 adults in the car in relative comfort. The 3rd row seats lay flat to give a generous amount of cargo space in the back. The middle row of seats can also lay flat, giving you a HUGE amount of rear cargo space if you need to haul something really big, or move house. The rear door opens to the side and gives you a large, easy access to the cargo area. The rear passenger doors are very large, giving easy access for adults to get in and out of the middle row of seats. The exterior of the Suzuki is black. I would say that the paint is in average condition for this year of car. It shines up really well when washed and waxed, but the paint on the hood is faded / oxidized (but NOT peeling), and there are some chips and small scrapes here and there – mostly on the corners of the bumpers and around the wheel wells. This XL-7 has the really nice looking 16” factory alloy wheels and the fog lamps on the front. All of the tires have plenty of tread too. The grey interior is in good shape for the age of the car, and for a small SUV in 2002, it was loaded with options. Driver and passenger airbags. Power windows, mirrors, door locks (we have the central locking keyring remote), power sunroof, cruise control, Clarion stereo with CD and tape cassette players. There is also selectable rear A/C, and the rear passengers can control the fan speed for the rear A/C. We have just had the interior professionally cleaned, so that it will be spotless for the new owner. Problems As I've stated above, we have not had any serious problems with the car, but there are some minor things to note, some of which have already been listed. The “service engine soon” light is on. I had a shop run a diagnostic check and they found that one of the 4 oxygen sensors needed to be replaced – it is the passenger's side O2 sensor closest to the engine. I ordered a Bosch replacement, but never got around to installing it. The new Bosch O2 sensor is included in the sale of the car. The A/C needs a recharge. Last summer the A/C worked fine, and was ice cold. This spring when it started getting hot, and my wife put the A/C on, it blew warm air. Typical scrapes and chips in the paint, oxidized paint on the hood. There is an occasional squeaking noise from the rear brakes that started about 2 months ago. The rear brakes are drums, and since we just had them completely serviced over the winter, I suspect that they are just building up some dust. The braking performance is still great. PLEASE READ: This car is sold AS IS, with No Warranty. This is a private sale and the car is NOT MD State Inspected. Payment in CASH ONLY. No Paypal, no checks / money orders, no bank transfers. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction. Car must be picked-up and paid for within 1 week of the end of the auction. We will be removing our tags to turn in to the MVA once the sale is completed, so you will need a trailer to take the Suzuki home when you pick it up, unless you have access to a transporter tag. ***As stated above, this has been a great car for us over the past year. We have gotten a lot of use out of it and it has never given us any trouble. I have tried to describe it as best as possible, and list the problems that I know about. This is an 11 – year old car, it is not perfect. Please read the description fully, examine the supersized photos, ask any questions in a timely manner, and please arrange to come and look over the car prior to the end of the sale if you are serious about buying it. I work long hours so contact me at least 24 hours before you want to come look at it so that I can adjust my schedule. If you do not do any of these things, but still bid on the car, you are obviously comfortable purchasing it. Do not show up after the end of the auction and start tire-kicking and nit-picking, and please do not waste my time if you cannot pay in cash or cannot pick up the car in a reasonable amount of time. Attention - Bidders with zero or negative feedback must contact me before placing bids, otherwise I will delete your bids and block you from further bidding on the auction. I have to do this to protect myself from non-paying bidders. There is no reserve, and I have set the starting bid at the lowest amount that we are comfortable with. Happy bidding!
