Vehicle Detail
This vehicle is 1 out of 23 listed in the National Heavy Chevy Registry (only 23 of the 16,235 Heavy Chevy's sold are listed due to needing to be verified by the GM Build Sheet or Heritage Certificate which most people do not have). 1972 Chevelle Heavy Chevy, complete with build sheet/heritage certificate from GM, original owners manual and owner history file with invoices and receipts of maintenance and service dating back to 1975 (I am the 3rd owner having bought it in 1984, the 2nd having been my best friend who bought it in 1975, and the 1st being a local cop in the area I still live in). My best friend purchased this vehicle in February of 1975. I purchased it from him in November 1983 with about 70,000 miles on it. In 30 years I have only driven it an additional 6403 miles, basically just starting it up a few times a year, taking it for joy rides, and using it in my daughters wedding, for a current odometer reading of 76403 - it has been stored in my garage for the majority of these years with the exception of a few years in my barn - It is a really nice collector car as is and minor cosmetic details and some electrical would be all that it would take to restore this car to its full restoration potential. The 350 emblems I am told would not have been factory but have been on the car since I and others have known it from 1975 so if it was done post factory it would have been done by the original owner. The car is all original except for the passenger door which was replaced back in the 80’s when I hit the mailbox with a door from another 72 Heavy Chevy (note the wood grain panel door that was the only option on the 72 Heavy Chevy). I have photos showing the damage as well as the stripes/decals before they were removed - decals can be ordered for $150-200). Also not original are the rims and consumable parts that have been changed over the years including: alternator, starter, carburetor, ignition switch, and brakes. The interior floor mat was changed out for carpet back in the 80’s but the original is under the carpet. I am not 100% sure of the condition of the passenger side or rear but I do remember the reason for installing the carpet was due to a small rust spot on the driver side floor. Before the rust spot could progress I had it fibro glassed over and then carpet installed – if my memory serves me correct this was the only damage since the passenger seat and back seat were rarely sat in. Rims and tires are not factory (spare tire is original including the rim and still has the sticker on it) Radio – I still have the original AM radio somewhere - may possible Shocks – original were replaced with Gabriel air shocks back in 1976 – has a 100% lifetime warranty Exhaust was changed out in June 1978 and again in July 1998 Ball joints and lower arm control bushing – 2 lower ball joints and the right lower arm control bushing was replaced in 1984 during a front end alignment service The condition of this vehicle, to the best of my knowledge, is as follows: Exterior – minor paint chips/scratches/cracks near the front grill, one large paint chip on trunk (see photo). Back when the vehicle was painted there were two rust spots cut out and fixed near the rear windshield (common for these cars); one of these spots currently has a small bubble in the paint. Minor rust on hood pins. Minor dings in chrome. Interior – Interior back dash has sun deterioration (see photo). Driver’s side seat has wear and tear (see photo). A couple of quarter size holes in the head liner and 1 dime size. A quarter size tear behind the driver seat near where the seat folds up. Electrical – Tail lights and overhead light are currently not working. Front turn signals both light up but currently do not flash due to the rear tail lights not working. Mechanical – Engine runs great. Transmission has original 3 speed floor shifter. No leaks. Brakes – Work great. Exhaust – dual exhaust fairly new with warranty. Odometer is original and actual. All #’s match. This vehicle was manufactured in Oshawa Canada – sticker on inside of driver’s door. I explained to him that this is indeed the original engine but me not thinking back in the day painted them after seeing the color on another car. I have a can of the original paint color that I can include for you to repaint (it is old but at least it will give you the color)
